Title: Utah Veterinary Health Certificate
Post by: DeafSheltieMom on September 21, 2016, 08:29:01 AM
I was just making last minute bath appointments and check-ups, and learned that Utah requires dogs to have an official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.  I was not sure if it was for dogs being imported into the state for sale, or for all dogs traveling through the state.  Any thoughts???  I vaguely recall this coming up from 4 years ago, but haven't seen anything for this year.

Thanks.  I do have my dogs getting the certificates today anyways, but would be nice to know if this policy is for traveling pets.

I go in and out of Utah all the time with my dogs, and have never had occasion to need any kind of certificate.
No idea about selling or buying one though!

Thanks, Diane!  I figured you'd be the one to know  ;)

I'm getting them jic.  I do travel for trials out of state, so it is good to have done, regardless.

According to the AVMA, dogs travelling to Utah do need a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.  No exceptions listed:

Check with your vet before travelling...

Not arguing the rule - but who would check?

I have gone in and out of Utah literally hundreds of times with dogs, never had a certificate and have never been asked for one.
Yes, my dogs have rabies vax and I carry the certificates - but again, have never been asked for them.

Follow the rules if you must....or just won't worry about this one.

Hmmm. To me, it looks like the key word on this document is "Importation," which I would interpret as bringing an animal into the state to live there permanently, as opposed to travelling with one's own companion animal.

I go to Utah from Nevada frequently ,always with my dog. Have never heard of this and never been asked for it.
