Title: share pictures of your dog
Post by: Merri on December 21, 2012, 01:30:36 PM
I asked Chris if I could post the link below.  I was hoping for a thread where we could post pix of NADAC dogs so those of us who might not meet at trials might put images of dogs to the people in the community.

So here are mine in case anyone is interested...

The smaller yellow dog:  Katie and my husband Glenn -- who do compete in non-virtual NADAC trials.

The other images are of our special needs boxer mix Hildie who just got her NADAC number this week.
The non-agility  image is her at 6 months old the day after we adopted her as a special needs dog.  She was losing weight with blood tests showing malnourishment-- too scared to eat unless handfed by my side in her one safe spot.  She was scared of the wind, scared of the sound of one leaf skipping across the driveway.  After 4 years of constant work with out vet, training and medication, she went so far.  Then we adopted Katie, our agility dog...

The two tunnel pictures are of Hildie this year after starting agility -- the first time this dog has been able to feel real out and out JOY in her life. She is still a bundle of nerves, especially around people but she is a different dog today.  Since agility, she has been weaned off her long term anti-anxiety medicine.  Thank you NADAC for making video runs a possibility for dogs like her and giving us more fun goals (once shut down, agility has made her want to interact more than ever) now that we have discovered her passion.

I would love to see pix of other NADAC dogs.  :-)  Because of Hildie's special needs, we probably won't get to travel to trials far from home.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade.... but if you are going to do VT at home, I hope it is on different equipment that then shown in the pictures..... since slats aren't allowed at NADAC trials or for VT runs.

Sharon, yes, once I already posted the thread, I said "oops".  Don't worry -- for a VT run with Hildie, we will use NADAC spec equipment.

Unfortunately, we do not have a lot of options when it comes to weekend practice.  We live in a townhouse.  We do not practice at our own home (other than things like doing contacts on the stairs, 4 weaves in our living room, etc.).  As far as we know, there is no place to practice anywhere near home that has NADAC spec equipment (grrrr!).  We actively look for places too.  We take Katie (the trial dog) to practice in as many places as possible to help her build her confidence.  We keep our hoops in our car trunk along with the crates.

I am going to ask people at the March NADAC trial for ideas.  I also have to make sure Hildie gets some practice on the correct equipment before doing a VT.   I have a lot preparation to do before we can do a VT run.  Hildie would probably be ok for an outdoor run in another place as long as there are not strange people around or crashing noises nearby.

I would really love to see pix of other people's dogs if people feel like sharing them.

Thanks, Ronni, it's been very rewarding seeing Hildie grow !  Do you have a picture of Scooter?

Here is Katie having fun last summer at a NADAC trials, she is our agility dog!

Does anyone else have pictures to post?

Here are my dogs!  I do NADAC mostly in Idaho, Montana and sometimes Nevada.  Both dogs are rescues!!!  The one in the weave poles is Gypsy (Dalmatian cross) and she will be 9 years old in April.  Thanks Amy of Great Dane Photos for this shot!  The other dog going over the jump is Jester (Aussie/BC cross) and he will be 3 in March.

All of my dogs are rescues

Kody (in front)  - my first agility dog & soul mate who is now over the bridge - an All American - who played agility till 12.5 years old -

Nika (rear on left) - The comedian of our pack - Siberian Husky rescue who has overcome so much - now 12 years old and semi-retired from agility b/c she just does not love to play by the rules and gets bored with all the silly things we humans ask our dogs to do :P

Kiva (rear on right) - my heart dog and best buddy - All American - 5 years old now - and lives to play ball, frisbee and agility - all at the same time if you'd let her.

We live in NY and trial in NY, MA, CT, PA, NJ & MD - This year made it to NC for the TFT and also to Champs in IL in 2011

For all future pictures of your dogs, please be sure that they are "NADAC friendly" pictures.... no slats on the equipment, or tables, or double, triples, tires, or teeters!!  Let's be respectful of NADAC with those pictures being posted to the NADAC site and then I don't have to answer extra emails about the trial that used the equipment in the pics!

Thanks!!

No offenders, as you definitely meant no disrespect to NADAC in any way!!  Yes, people did ask if we now allowed some of the obstacles... but I dealt with that....

I am just trying to avoid those questions again!

You are very proud of your dogs and it shows!  Good job!

This is my heart dog, my 5 year old border collie Kaiden.  He was given up by his owner after 2.5 years.  Just didn't want him anymore.  He had some agility training, but wasn't trained for 6 months before being returned to his breeder.  He then flew 1400 miles to his new home with me, started going to trials, and is doing fantastic!  Our main venue is NADAC, but we do some AKC as well.  He is one TG away from his VersNATCH 2!  :)   In just shy of 3 years he's earned 3 NATCHs, his 2500 Lifetime Point Award and was the #10 Proficient Border Collie in Tunnelers in 2011!

Kaiden:  NATCH 2, VersNATCH Tartan Bay More Than Meets The Eye S-TN-E, S-WV-E, S-TG-E, HP-E, MX, MXJ, MXF, HIC

Beautiful pix!!  I am the main offender since I started it.  It seems like our whole area is dominated by a certain venue in which we choose not participate.  All the practice areas have less than optimal equipment.  I think NADAC is growing in our area so hopefully that will change sooner than later.  But the good news is that I think we found a place with NADAC spec equipment where our special needs dog Hildie will be able to do a video run when we are ready.  :-)  She just did her first ever full size dog walk yesterday so once she is comfortable and confident with that she will be to do all NADAC obstacles and then.. the hard work begins!  But she seems to be eating it up.  I am shocked at how quickly agility is making her move from a dog totally closed off in her own world to a dog who is starting to enjoy the interactive part of agility.

Merri, I hope more people post pictures of their dogs!!  Great photos!

You are great to be working agility with Hildie!  I have posted a video or two of a rescue dog I have here named Mr. Dibz.  Dibz is a part of our online seminar group of dogs.  I continue to tell people how important it is to get these scared and insecure dogs to learn "behaviors"... it is critical to get them out of their fears.  Once you teach an insecure dog a new behavior, whether it is a sit or a foot wave or whatever, they become confident as they learn to use their little brains to create new behaviors on command... they become more confident and they learn to love the opportunity to learn.  Our terrified little Dibz has been here since Nov. 7th and he is now one of the stars of the online group!  He is becoming bolder and happier and he is very proud of himself and VERY eager to continue to learn new things.

You are doing great by choosing to teach Hildie new things and allowing her to "feel" how great she is and allow her to develop mentally and not just hide her away and 'protect' her from the scary big world....  good luck with her continued training and we look forward to seeing her first videos!  Good job!

Attached are my two favorite photos of Huckleberry Hound. He was my first agility dog and now retired. I always loved how his ears flopped up when running and he has a smile on his face. For being a coonhound, he loved being on the agility course and earned a Medal in 2011. Huckleberry also loved running in the mountains following scent trials and I loved to listen to his bay. I trusted him completely and he has a tremendous recall to the word "Yogi".

These are my dogs. I only have one dog at this point that I am doing agility with. Huck is a MiniatureAustalian Shepherd, he will be 5 in March. I just love him and he is such a sweet boy and loves doing agility even though I mess him up alot but he loves me anyway.

Here are a few pictures of my current agility partners, along with a pic of my "partner in training" ....

They are all very near & dear to my heart !

Kruzer  will be 9 in April. He has become my "favorite pair of jeans" ! I can always count on Kruz to give me 110 % each & every time we go to the line. He is my rock ! :)

Driven is my 4 yo mini aussie . He is my little bottle rocket that is always ready for a good time !! Driven has taught me to really think on my toes & be in the moment ! Let your guard down for a second & Mr Driven will take the course on his own ! He keeps me honest ! Love my little man ! :D

Sammi, my "Rental Corgi" is 10 yo . She is my steady eddy partner & I am honored that she "allows" me to be at the other end of the leash !   ;D

Rumor is my 20 month old aussie girl. She is a joy to train - always wants to learn & experience new things. She keeps me honest & has taught me a new "level' of patience ! Looking forward to going to the line with my girl this spring/summer to "test the waters" !!  ;)

It's a joy to have all these pups in my life ! Love them all !!

This is Casey.  She is an Australian Kelpie mix.  She started competing for Q's in September 2011.  She just turned 7 last month.  These pics were taken at Calera (the jump), and the other two at Mystic Acres at a "Run As One Agility" hosted trial.  Hoping to make it to Champs if she can get some contacts in the next couple weeks.

This is Abby.  We haven't started agility yet, we've barely gotten to know each other.  We met this past February in a very scary animal shelter, but it was love at first sight, and we've been inseparable ever since.  We were looking for an obedience coach, but they all had shutzund in mind, and we were were thinking... more fun, less work!  So we thought we'd give agility a try.  I came on this site looking for a group to join, and if anyone has any suggestions for a couple of 'newlyweds', we're 'all ears'.

Say Hi Jack!  This is our new guy, Jack.  He came to us on Valentine's Day of this year and is three years old.  He is a very sweet, happy Aussie boy and we are having a lot of fun with everything.  His manners, obedience and focus training is going well, and we have even started agility training already.  We are hoping to do some run thrus and part of an agility camp this summer along with his adopted older sister, Penny.

This is Rami, my 2.5 yr old TX Heeler (3/4 cattle dog, 1/4 aussie).  She is my first agility dog and a blast to run with!  We just completed our 1st yr in agility in Aug. 2013.  We've titled in NADAC, AKC, and ASCA (picture was from Memorial Day 2013, Q in 10 of 16 classes, High in Trial Non-Aussie 1 day).  We ran Pre-trial at this years Champs and had a blast even though I found out she was sore and therefore would not weave.  Definitely plan to make the 2015 Champs when it's back in the eastern half of the US.  Plans now are pretty much doing mostly NADAC with a few CPE and AKC in there.  The distance handling to me is more impressive than my dog having to jump higher.  Hope to see and meet more people at trials.  Going to try and hit some new clubs this year.

Second photo is Cruise.  I need to get back into NADAC with him, should build his speed but he still thinks weave poles aren't fun.

Third photo is Rico.  He will be bringing me to Championships again one day :)  What a fun guy!

Hello all!  New to the forum and thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm an agility, obedience, and tracking competitor from southwestern Indiana.  I'm lucky enough to still have my first dog and original agility competitor, Buddy Holly, who is now 13 and retired from AKC agility last year.  I also have Tucker, my enormous red BC, and his polar opposite Gin who is just turning 10 months old and might jump 16"!!  I've also trained two detection K9's- Gin's uncle Stryker, who we tragically last May to a vaccine reaction, and Dutch Shepherd Osie (pronounced O.C.).  After 14 years of Border Collies, I am in love with the Dutch Shepherd and have likely found my lifetime breed!

Hi, Corrie.  Bluf is heel mooi (very beautiful).  I looked this up on Google Translate.

The white markings are much like a Border Collie but I know that Markiesje is a spaniel type breed.

I like the intense look on her face.  That is a very impressive list of sports that you enjoy together.

Congratulations!

Thank you Richard,

Yes she is looking very much like a Border Collie.
But indeed (super , you know that) the breed is a Spaniel crossbreed.

She is heard so many times that she looks like a BC she thinks she is one, LOL
It's a great working dog.

grtz, Corrie

Corrie, I have to admit I cheated and Googled Markiesje before I answered you.  :)

The all black ones I saw pictures of look much more like spaniels than does Bluf.  I like her name as well, especially if it translates as google says, "Boast".

I run 2 Papillons that are also spaniel types.  One is typical conformation but the other has short hair and a big tail.  When people ask, I tease them that he is a red and white 'toy' Border Collie.

You have Papillons?
They are great dogs.

You know that they used Papillons as a crossbreed to bring back the race Markiesje in The Netherlands?
They also used a Stabijna, thats another Dutch breed.

Markiesje where extinct and in the years 1970 they breed back the race.
There are now about 1000 Markiesjes in The Netherland.

Till so far Dutch history lesson, LOL

Corrie, your girl is adorable! I love that her markings resemble a border collie. What a cute breed, I hadn't heard of them so I had to google them.

I had also not heard of treibball, so googled that... sounds fun!

I'm sorry, Corrie.  I just noticed this post tonight.

Yes, I have another Papillon named Sparkle.  She looks as papillons are supposed to.  She has the long hair on her ears and the small 'pom-pom' tail.  Thank you and I agree they are great dogs.

No, I didn't know that about the Markiesjes.  Very interesting.  They must be great dogs if they have papillons in the family.   ;D

I'm also a fan of Kooierhondjes.  They are rare in the US.  But there is a breed called Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever here.  They are about the same size as Kooikers and also used to decoy ducks into nets.  Unlike Kooikers, they are mostly red with white markings.  So I'm returning some history lesson of Canada and USA!

Thank you Jessi,

Yes Treibball is a great sport to do, the dog have to bring eight big balls towards the handler in to a goal.

Hi Richard, In the Netherlands a Papillon is very populair in the agility sports, they are doing great in the small classes.
I know the Kooiker well , one of my students breeds them.
In the Netherland the Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is also known , very nice retriever dogs.

Our pack of All-Americans!  They are all rescues and 'project' dogs, and they all LOVE agility.

Tate is a 5.5-year-old GSD mix.  Connor is a 2-year-old BC/Aussie mix.  And Chrisse is a 10.5-year-old husky mix.   When they're not playing agility, they love to hike in the mountains, and run on trails, and sleep, and swim, and sleep, and play frisbee and keep the yard squirrel-free.  And make their people incredibly happy.  And sleep.   ;D

Here''s my agility partner of 13 years ... NATCH-3 "Muncher" at our first trial of this season.  A picture of him clearing the final jump of the Intro course - at the age of nearly 17.

He still lives to play and comes to the back door of the house any time another dog is out in the rings for trials, video, or lessons.  He wants to be a part of the action!  We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to continue playing our favorite game for this long!

Queenie and I entered our first agility trial this past weekend.  I wasn't even considering NADAC until a friend told me about the Intro Level.  I have to tell you, it was a total blast.   With the classes more easy for me to remember, I entered the ring feeling confidant and ready to run fast!  That is exactly what my dog did!  I entered the classes I was most familiar with, Regular, Weavers and Jumpers.  The games tend to scare me off a bit, too complicated.  But, I could see that the Intro version of the games seemed doable for me.  In the future, I plan on going after the Versatility certificate.  In one weekend, we got 8 Q's, titled in Regular and got HIT Intro.  I am still on cloud 9!  The judge was great, very understanding of newbies and urged us to keep things fun for ourselves and our dogs.  I love the Palomar Agility Club and plan on going to their events.

How nice to read your email, Roxanne.  I had a wonderful dog named Queenie many years ago.  Good on you and your partner for doing such a great job at the Palomar trial.  Good on them for offering Intro!

It was great having you and Queenie and all of the Intro dogs at the Palomar trial!  I love Intro...  it was a godsend for me and my Papillon as we started our agility journey together, and it is great to see other teams do the same!  Hope to see you at the next Palomar trial in October!  It is all games, but we'll help you with them if you need it... just ask!

Congrats to you and Queenie for earning H.I.T. Intro!  So glad you and the other Intro. folks had a good time in spite of the heat.  See you in October?

Yes, I just sent my entry.  I will be doing Tunnelers and Weavers.  I want to watch the extreme games to see what they are all about.  Just wondering the difference between extreme and not.

I have an updated picture of our Katie to share (since Merri's original post starting this topic).  On May 8 (a month ago) Katie earned her NATCH at a Mountain Dog Sports trial :-)  Katie and I (and Merri our coach) went to our very first agility trial exactly 4 years ago, also a MDS NADAC trial.  This is certainly the accomplishment in my life that I am the most proud of in the last 15 years!

P.S. Most earlier photos of everyone's dogs seem to have vanished from the NADAC site, only those with links to other web sites are showing up.

this is my sweet old lady who was affectionately dubbed by a lovely junior handler as Mama Ellie. She is retired now with a versatility NATCH-4. She can no longer see well enough in arenas and shadow confuse her, and is simply getting older, and much much sweeter She even made it into the NADAC hall of fame! She is small, fast and really rocked it in the ring. From her very first trial at Calera until her final trial which were actually VT's since she couldn't see in the arenas any more, to fully retired. I truly miss being able to run her. It gives her enormous happiness to run through a couple of hoops and tunnels now when the others go o practice.

Well, now that I finally got her NADAC number, here is my baby dog, Calypso.  She will try trialing in March in intro and we will see how it goes.

Simon and I have been doing NADAC off and on now for a little over three years and just earned our NATCH and V-NATCH last weekend after completing the last two elusive Chances runs under judge Scott Casino.  He may be only 9 inches tall, but has proven that distance is not just for the big guys.  NADAC is not the only venue we trial in, but it is a venue that I would never want to be without.  The people are incredibly supportive and I love the types of courses that it offers.
(Note)  Click on the pictures and they will display a little larger.  He is quite small, after all.   :)

I wanted to add a photo of Griffin. We are new to NADAC and entered our first trials this year. Griffin is a Glen of Imaal Terrier. This was after our second trial (photo taken at home) and there was one Q ribbon missing so we had 9 Q's! NADAC has really been a great confidence booster for Griffin.

I don't think I"ve shared a photo of Squirrel! on here. She's a toy aussie who turns 3 next month. She's my challenge dog... she is fast, smart, and has fun, but she is sooooooo social, that keeping her from jumping in everyone's lap is a challenge lol! (I've learned not to enter classes with pole setters yet... and if the course heads toward the scribe/timer table, uh oh LOL)

She managed to get her first Q recently, in Intro Tunnelers. It was such a big deal to us, I asked the judge to take a photo with us, like you do for NATCH's LOL! She's going to be great... eventually ;)

My Ritzy used to visit anyone in the ring and back then when you went to the line they would often say, "Is this (dog's name)?"  I knew when that happened that at some point in the run she was going to say hi as it would be rude to ignore them!  She even greeted the judge if they were anywhere near the path.  She literally figured those people were "obstacles" to perform.  I didn't fight it - I actually put it on cue, so then I could call her away and move on to the next obstacle.  I may have even taken advantage of it a few times to get a cross in...  Eventually she sorted it all out, but those are some of my best agility memories with her.
