Howdy everybody,
I was bored today and didn't have much to do.
So to occupy my time I played around in Excel and made a little title/award sheet.
Basically what it does is checks your points for titles and then lists them, and then the more important aspect is it will also list any and all awards you have earned. I know sometimes figuring all that out can be a little taxing.
Anyway I will post a screenshot so you can see what it looks like.
If you want a list like this for your own dogs awards just shoot me an email with your dogs registration number. Or if you want to run the formula yourself shoot me an email and I will explain the steps :)
-
~Updated to include Versatility NATCH's~
A couple notes:
There is more than what the screenshot shows, I just couldn't fit it all on one page.
You may have to re size a couple columns to fit correctly. I assume if you have the knowledge to do this then making a column a little wider won't be something I need to explain :)
If you find a error/glitch please let me know :)
If you want to run this yourself here is what you need to do:
1) Look up your dogs points using the 'Points' tab above.
2) Export to CSV
3) Open my file that is attached here
4) Copy everything from K1 to T58
5) Paste this into your dogs csv file, starting at K1.
If that is above and beyond your technical skill than just shoot me an email :)
-
Chris,
This is great, thank you! Would you consider adding several columns for the versatility NATCH criteria as well?
I found a few new awards we didn't know we had :-)
-
Hey Chris, that's cool! Might just add to your directions that you have to "enable editing" before copying your awards listing formulas to make it work. And maybe double-check your formula in cell M-11 (Elite Regular Basic) -- when I applied it to Zack's records that title is showing as a "No" but he is showing Outstanding and Superior Regular Elite titles as earned (which they all should be).
Thanks for doing this! :)

Ahh I knew I was forgetting something!
Yup I will get those added in there too

Figured it out.
You earned your EAC on a 20 point bonus run, and the formula I use when adding in titles messed up and didn't give you the title.
So your point records are fixed now, and I got to fix a bug in my title stuff, Score 8)

Got it updated to include Versatility NATCH's now.
It's in the same post above, but it's a new file now.
-
Thank you! This is cool :) I keep track of my points using my own spreadsheet in Numbers (Apple's excel) but this is very useful.
-
Yes, Chris, please send me this spreadsheet. My dog is Kane, 06-10385. My private e-mail is sarabillandpups@att.net. This is a great tool. You are the best!!!

So it seems the biggest issue right now is making this work for folks with a Mac.
I am not 100% on what that solution may be. I can turn it into just a basic CSV file, which a Mac should be able to open, it won't be pretty anymore but the data would all be correct. But I do not know what the correct Apple program is to open csv documents on a Mac.
Ideas?
-
Hi Chris,
This just worked great for me on a Mac using Excel, but it should also work using Libre office, Open Office, or Neo Office for the Mac.
thanks for the great file,

Excel files work fine on a Mac if you have Office. And Numbers can open excel files as well.

Chris this looks great. Could you please send the breakdown on Banner 09-01240 to jwshimko@charter.net.
Thank you for this and all you do!

Chris:
I tried it, but the values remain "No" except for Novice, Open & Elite Versatility. Even the values for the titles required to earn the Versatility Awards.

If they are using Excel on the MAC and having problems opening it, it could be that they have an older version. Try saving the file as an xls instead of and xlsx.

This is happening on mine as well. The reason seems to be that the formula for those columns is referring to Column D which is the Class column. It looks to me like the formula should be referencing Column F instead, as column F is the Title column.
Also, Chris, you said to paste your stuff into Column K - which I did. But that then replaced the DRI #s which were in Column K. (Not that it mattered for my dog because we don't have any DRI numbers to write home about .. lol)
Has anyone else had this work correctly? Where it referenced to Column D and that was correct?
-
Only problem I had was using another dogs # when pulling up points the first time! At first I thought, this didn't work right, but then realized what I did!!
Once I used the right #'s, I got the right results and both my dogs are in Elite with lots of titles etc.
I just followed Chris's instructions.
Thanks Chris!!

Let me know which dog it's for and I will give it a shot and see what's happening :)

Column D is the Title column ;) Column F is the DRI column. I am not sure how you are getting those.

Another update.
I also forgot to add in a column for lifetime points. That is now rectified.
I will attach it here and also fix it back on the original attachment

On the points excel file that i download and opened on my Mac, here's what i get:
Column A - registration #
Column B - Call name
C - points
D - class
E - total points
F - title
G - Platinum
H - Silver
I - Date earned
J - Host Club
K - DRI
I can always modify the column names in the formulas and get it to work. Just not sure why my columns are different than yours.
-
Marcy,
Are you downloading your points from the Member section?
If so that is the problem.
I made it to work off the older style page since that is still what the majority of people use: http://www.nadacforum.com/Points.php (http://www.nadacforum.com/Points.php)

I figured it out. I was downloading points from the Members Section rather than the Points section. ;D
-
I was also downloading points from the Members Section. Downloaded it from points and it works. TX

Very cool! I don't know how to do any of this, and you made it simple enough that I followed your instructions and it even worked for me! And now to show my complete ignorance, do you have to follow that procedure any time points are updated or is there a way to update what we just did? And if it's too much trouble to explain, don't worry about it...I can just check on here.
Thanks, Chris!
-
Hi Chris, thanks for doing this! I tried it but got nowhere...probably because I don't know how to use Excel. When I pasted your file into my dog's point file in Excel (starting with the K column), all I got was your file pasted on the side of the dog's file. It didn't compute anything.
Do you have an idea what I'm doing wrong? As I said, I don't use Excel except to sum.
Thanks again!

It will have to be redone for each upload.
Someday I plan on getting a program built that will keep track of everything automatically right from the website. But that will be a long way off

The first time I tried the copy and paste on my Mac, it didn't work. But I remembered reading to try saving the cvs file as an xls instead of an xlsx. So I did, and when I pasted into the cvs.xls file the second time, VOILA!!!! Ryder had titles filled in. It worked great that way. ;D

Chris,
I can't seem to make this work for my Fancie, 08-12193. I've included a screen shot of what I get, maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong. If not, could you possibly send it to me my dog to drummond_j@charter.net. Thanks

Unless I am missing something I believe it's all there?
I went through and took a look at your points and it's matching up with what your screenshot shows.
-
THank you, Chris. Tanya made it work for me. I'm a total Excel idiot....
-
Thanks Chris, when it came up at first I saw so many "no's" I thought "that couldn't be right." Immediately after I sent my post, I realized that it was there, but I couldn't "retrieve" the post. Thanks for checking and sorry for being too "quick on the post." :-[

If we create the sheet today, then when there are new points, we should be able to copy all the data from a new CVS and pasted it into A1 of our spreadsheet that was created today.
Is that correct?

Indeed.
That would work perfectly.

Hi Chris,
Could I please have a copy of this form for Ashton? His NADAC number is 09-08226.
Thanks for your help,

AWESOME, Chris! Thanks so much!!!! :)

Hi Chris,
This is great but soooo beyond my experience level. Could you please send me copies for the following dogs:

Chris could you do the spreadsheet for Skye 06-06055? Thanks so much. Arlene
-
A little helpful bit that Tim Spring built that works into my spreadsheet.
This will pull all your points from the website, so essentially skips the step of having to export to csv and all that jazz.
-
It doesn't quite work on the mac. It all shows up in the left hand column (without parsing out to the separate columns).

True, it was written as a PC-based sub-routine.

Well, that is just the coolest thing ever! Tim Spring...you rock! Thank you!

For some reason the PC version doesn't work on a Mac. I was able to get the old points lookup to work on a Mac but then it did not work on a PC. Attached is an updated version of what worked on a Mac with the awards stuff added. Try it and let me know if it works. I don't have a Mac to test it on.
Tim
Actually I think I used the wrong starting point. Look for an update version in Reply 52 once it is approved. Sorry for the confusion.

I understand none of that! LOL

Thank you Chris Nelson and Tim Spring..... I have advised Australian exhibitors to log onto the forum to give the spreadsheet a go and the feedback is they love it :)

Thanks Chris for the spreadsheet that is totally awesome stuff.

Should show up soon. It is await approval by the moderator.

Hi Chris and Tim,
Ive put in Hectors nadac number, no yellow box showing up, but still showing no results found. Not sure what else I should do. I am using a mac, is this the reason. I have no other computer.

I am now on a mac. I could open the spreadsheet but how do you get it to interect with the points lookup?

It should automatically prompt you for your dog's NADAC number. If it doesn't it is because Macros are not enabled. For the macros to work you must allow macro by Selecting Tools->Options, Click on the Security Tab (pre- office 2010, 2010 is under File, Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings, Marco Settings - set to disable with notification). Click on the Macro Security button. Set to Medium. This will prompt you when you open a file with macro if you want to enable them.
-
Ah!! I am not actually using Excel. For the limited amount of spreadsheet work I do, I tried Numbers. I will check on the forums and see if Numbers can import macros.
Thanks

Hooray it worked! On my mac! :) Thank you!

Chris, could you send me the spreadsheet info for
Frisco: 05-01048
Desi: 11-10079
When I tried to open the CSV file the computer asked me what program to open it with, and Excel Viewer was not in the options. I have never used Excel & I don't think I have the program, only the Viewer.
Thanks

I didn't realize that we had earned a Novice Triple Superior Award until I used your spreadsheet.
Thanks.

I know that the line between skilled vs. proficient isn't really there any more, but all you do is type in dates. I enjoyed making the boxes turn purple when a title/award is earned! I created these in 2011 after seeing a similar grid for another organization.
-
I like it :)
-
Doing it with the points look up, and the copy/paste thing, it shows the Novice Versatility as yes, but all the titles above are no.
Then I tried the thing where you get prompted to put in the dog's NADAC number, and it tells me I have to sign in to www.nadac.com (http://www.nadac.com) I tried using my forum login info but that didn't work.
Help?
-
Nevermind, it worked with the copy/paste. I think I wasn't looking at it right maybe lol
