Welcome aboard Keri!

Check the post I just made http://nadacforum.com/index.php?topic=6.0 (http://nadacforum.com/index.php?topic=6.0)   And it has some helpful info for the judges on getting access to those boards.

Indeed :)

At the moment I still have to change the membergroups by hand when it comes up with the primary as a odd one.

So for instance below Jeannie's name it says 'Trial Secretary'.    Jeannie is also a judge so I can change it to where it says 'judge'.

If anybody who is a judge wants this done let me know.   I might find a way to make the 'judge' rank differently.

Hopefully that all made sense

Just curious -- is this replacing NADACNews or in addition to that and the Yahoo group?

Very similar to another group I'm a part of and very easy to navigate!

Just tryin' it out.  Wondering what will appear below my name...which I should have made Diane Allen, but didn't.  Oh well, I guess until someone else in Moab signs up, I'm pretty well identified!

At the moment it will be run along with the original Yahoo group.

If everyone switches over, and then assuming everyone likes this better, we will use it.

But for now it's a bit of a leap of faith to see what people think  8)

When I have time there will be some more posts on how to customize your profile and such.

MY gut feeling is we will probably have everyone put there name in the Signature area, that way we know who we are talking to like on the Yahoo groups.

Given It's pretty easy to identify so far :)

You can check this out Diane, http://nadacforum.com/index.php?topic=7.0 (http://nadacforum.com/index.php?topic=7.0)

That explains how to change your 'name' so that it appears right.

Your username used to log in will still be the same, but the appearance will be different.

Hey Chris,

Is there a way to have this notify us via email of any new posts like the Yahoo Group does?  I have looked but cant seem to figure out if it can or not.

Pretty nice format Chris...I like it's look and feel

I am also guessing because it is not an email group then people will be a lot happier about not getting heaps of emails etc....   Yhey either read the board or don't :)

 :-\

In a way.

You can enter a board, and then on the top right is a 'notify' option.

That will send you a email whenever someones posts in that board.

You would need to repeat the process for each board

Is there any way to do away with or move the "Main Menu" box to the left of the screen?  It is messing with the layout of the board for me.  I have to move the scroll bar to the right to view the entire posting box, but when I do so the names of the posters disappear beneath the Main Menu box.  It would be really nice if that could be placed elsewhere....

I see on the top of this reply box that "this post will not display until it's been approved by a moderator."  Well, that kind of does away with the "instant conversation" feel of every other bb I belong to.....  The nice thing about a bb vs. a moderated Yahoo group is the conversational feel that it allows.  If this bb is going to have a moderation filter on every post, I ultimately feel NADAC is better off sticking with the Yahoo format where the posts will continue to be delivered to everyone's mailboxes.

We might make it an option where the 'themes' can be changed for each individual person.

And thanks for the input.

My only comment so far is that doing the original load of the page takes a long time (longer than most other sites). Not sure if this is a host or server issue. I haven't timed it yet (thought about it), but it's definitely slow right now. Once I'm on the site, things move just fine.

I got the same feeling. I'm quite active on some other bb's, the moderator moves the posts if they belong in a different section, but you do not have to have every post approved. I really don't care for this "every post needs to be seen before posted" thing.

Some more dumb blonde questions.

If I would like to reply specifically to post #x in a thread it looks like I can only add my comment at the very end of the list of replies?

Also there is no "like" button - what's up with that?

Sorry you feel that way.
This forum is simply a upgraded verison of the original Yahoo group.  Which is moderated.
There are a plethora of options for un moderated forums out there.
The fact is this forum is a extension of a business.   And you are talking to the entire NADAC community when you post here.   Which is something we have found needs moderation as sometimes people tend to get 'rough' with their opinions on other folks training methods or choice of venue.
And we do have a very good reputation for being a fun venue and having a nice friendly group of people.  Which should be reflected upon our forum.

Re: Quote: "...I really don't care for this "every post needs to be seen before posted" thing."

It was the same way on the Yahoo group.  I am sure it is done to prevent any *inappropriate" postings going through to the boards.  I don't like being censored either, but I understand why moderators sometimes do it.  After all, there are always trolls out there who comment not to express their opinion, but to deliberately antagonize others.

You are correct that your post will always go to the end.   This is actually intention to keep conversations in line.  Rather than jumping around.

You can quote a person, like I did above.

Either when viewing the topic you can click on quite (which is located inside their post).

Or when replying you can scroll down below and to the right is a quote button as well.

I don't have this problem on my regular computer, but when I tried reading messages on my smartphone the Main Menu box moved when I scrolled across the message, obscuring part of the message.  Very annoying.  Anyone have any thoughts on dealing with this?  I do a lot of reading from my smartphone.

And someone mentioned spellcheck--I can't find it.  And it does not do it automatically for me.

We can play with themes in a bit.

Basically you can change how the site is viewed with the themes without changing the content.

Right now you can't change them.

I will switch it and show you all what you need to do and maybe a different theme will work better for you.

Going to be a little while though cause I am still scrambling my brain on replying to topics through email...

I had to alter the size of my text to fit the entire board onto one screen -- so while now the main menu box isn't covering the text, now the text is super tiny and giving me a headache to read.  Oh well, at least I can see who is posting.

Regarding moderation -- If this is to be a "step up" from the Yahoo group, I really feel as though the board would benefit from running in the same manner as the majority of other boards on the internet.  You can still moderate while allowing people to post freely.  If someone posts something that isn't "cool" the moderator can delete those posts and even put posters on a "time out" if warranted.

I'm just saying, heavily moderated communities do not tend to grow.  People like to be able to converse with each other on a real time level.  Certain areas of the board might choose to remain on strict moderation, but I feel areas such as "General Discussion" should allow people to do just that -- openly discuss topics in real time.

The issue that comes with having every post wait to be approved is that it kills the desire to check in with the board on a regular basis.  With my other boards that I frequent I pop in several times a day because there is always guaranteed to be new content.  At this time it appears that Chris is the only person moderating and approving posts on this board -- and we can't really expect him to have his finger on the mouse 24/7 approving posts, so one theoretically has no idea when there will be new content to peruse on the board.

On the Yahoo group this didn't matter because all new material was delivered to your inbox.  With a bb format, it's just kind of annoying.  I really wish NADAC would give its members a bit more credit on the ability to police themselves.

Waving hello to everyone! Once people get used to the forum, I think it's going to be great - a threaded format like this is MUCH easier for keeping track of topics, zeroing in on discussions of personal interest, & skipping discussions that don't relate.

I agree--the Main Menu on the left has got to go!  Not being able to see the entire message box without scrolling to the right makes it hard to read.  And when you type in the message box, the beginning of each line gets buried under the menu!

Thanks for any help with this.

Forgot to add - re moderation, the Yahoo list has been 100% moderated for years. Joining that group has to be approved, and every single post on it has been cleared by a moderator. People who joined the Yahoo list prior to the switch to moderation were notifed when the change was made; anybody who signed up after the switch to moderation were informed at the time they joined.

So the status of this forum is nothing new.  :)

Karissa, I am going to highly disagree with you about moderated lists.  They DO grow!  Our agility list is the second largest in the world (behind Clean Run) and the biggest part of this is because people are happy that they don't have to hear non-stop negative ramblings and criticism of each other.  Our list is friendly, supportive and is a great family of fellow supporters who "enjoy" each other's presence.  This is not true of the non-moderated lists where people can be very rude and totally "out of line" before they get put on a "moderated" status.... but that is after the damage is done.

Our lists will remain modertated and that is not open to change..... we are always overwhelmed with the appreciation of the "masses" who want moderation so topics can be talked about with good input and opionions without emotional outbursts.

For those who do enjoy that type of "reading" there are dozens of agility lits and forums that are not moderated and they don't have the size of of our agility list of 5,800 people on Yahoo currently.

There are many "real-time" forums for people to use for social networking and there are no shortages of those!

We will maintain our current status!

Anyone who has managed an unmoderated list knows what a nightmare it is to battle SPAM and other unauthorized and inappropriate messages. There are hoards of programmed robots continually searching through the lists and forums etc to post advertising, malware and scams on unmoderated lists. Removing such messages after the fact is a never ending battle that consumes far too much time and effort, not to mention that is a terribly annoying task. There may also be a liability issue for the site owner (NADAC) if defamatory remarks or other illegal activity is performed via the site.

I also believe that the popularity of the NADAC group list is much due to the fact that it is moderated. Another, very important factor is that Sharon, as the moderator, does not block messages that are critical to decisions made or that promote views contrary to hers. So, the only negative for us as forum participants is that there can be a delay for posts to make it through. I'm amazed at how short that delay usually is, and it is a minimal price to pay for the benefit of forums that provide for so much information and exchange of ideas through civilized discourse.

For a long time, I've wondered how one person possibly could do all the things Sharon does, and moderating the forum(s) must take up a lot of time and require a lot of effort. However you do it, Thanks!

Stefan Elvstad

Hi Anna,

At this time there is not.

It's something I will look into though as time allows :)

Currently the best option is to click on 'show unread posts since last visit'

And then click on the 'new' tag that is to the right on all those topics.   That is the absolute quickest way to find new posts :)   And then you don't have to scan through each board individually
