Title: 2017 qualification?
Post by: Foomin Z on August 11, 2016, 02:21:47 PM
Is the qualification period for the 2017 champs open now (as of August 1st)?

Any idea where it's going to be held in 2017? USDAA already announced they are going to be eastern US next year. I only have vacation time enough from work for one major agility event per year. (AAC nationals this year, got 8th place overall woooooo!)

Yes, when one qualification finishes the next starts.

Can't answer the rest.

Yes, August to August.  We will be in Springfield again next year, last week of September.

I've never been to any, and I can't find a list of historical locations for past years' champs. Specifics are nice. Thank you.

Can you give the exact dates?  Last week runs into October on a weekend.  I just want to write it in the calendar!  Might be able to come this time!

Thank you!  We will aim for it :)  Maybe my baby dog can qualify pre-elite and I know my son and his dog can qualify for regular.  My older girl is semi-retired so she can't do it unless DD dogs get a lot smaller courses.  I'm still remembering sucking air down after that 43 obstacle opening course a few years ago and running at full speed with her on that course.  Fun but she can't do it like that now!

Call me crazy but shouldn't we let the poor overworked NADAC crew get through THIS year's Champs...and dealing with all the computer snafus...before we bug them about 2017?  I mean I understand some people needing the dates maybe for vacation requests...maybe...but how about waiting until October for most of the questions...
Of course maybe I'm just having a female dog (bitchy) day... :-)

If the qual period is August to August, it is perfectly valid to ask now where 2017 champs are. There are no NADAC trials during the winter months up here, which cuts qualifying opportunities short. I have to plan NOW, in order to make the best use of my available time. Waiting until October means losing two months' worth of possible trials. Those possible trials are few enough in the first place.

Hi Foomin!
You are absolutely correct!  My apologies!  As I mentioned, I think I was just having a "female dog day"--by way of explanation, though NOT an excuse, I had just rec'd a call from my dr with less than exciting news (nothing tragic but nothing I was hoping for) and my annoyance carried over into my post.  Again, sorry for any offense.
I'm hoping to be there next year, hope to see you, too.

Hi Sharon,
On August 12th you said qualifications for 2017 ----"They will be the same".

On August 16th you said-----"X-Hoopers will be required for next year.  20 points, any level.  VT counts."

Will there be any other new requirements ?

I am so glad that you us to run X hoopers at the pre trial before Champs, as I am not sure I will ever see it at a trial again for this new qualifying year.  Now I just have to get those 20 points.

Just a point.   Sept 29 and 30 cover the Holiday of Yom Kippur.   This eliminates participation in Champs for me and probably for other Jewish folks.  I was hoping that it would be the following week so that we might attend.

Maybe they have a time with an open date and we can come and do a funraiser, where it is offered, if there aren't any other conflicts.

We try our best every year to not conflict with Yom Kippur.  It seems that about every 7 years or so, we end up conflicting when sites have no other dates available.  We searched and tried to find a facility with open dates and those are the only open dates available.  We booked the dates and then found out the conflict but they won't refund our $2400 deposit either.

I have to agree. And once the criteria is set it should stay until the next qualifying period. The changes leave us uncertain. Sure people like challenges, some like me have come to just have fun. Not everyone is the same.
On the champs blog, There is the issue of hoop circle being a part of the course. Great! I think they are fun. But please make a determination and stick to it.
I read the forum a lot, yet I still miss information. The criteria, dates, obstacles used should all be clear and adhered to.
I love NADAC courses. I love the fact that I can vary the levels as my dogs age or rehab from injuries.

So, if we happen to get a Q in a run at Champs it counts towards 2017 Qualification?  And if so, is it considered a Regular Run Q or the run that showcases one of the classes as if the run showcases Tunnelers would it be considered a Tunnelers Q?

I was just looking at the trials that will be offered through the end of this year and there are very few opportunities to do ex hopers, especially within a reasonable distance of where I live.  I have done it once and understand the concept, but how am I supposed to get the qualifying runs if they are not offered near me?  I don't have the space or equipment to do a VT run.
I realize there was an uproar about the hoop circle in a run at champs this year.  Couldn't we just be told to expect it next year?  All the other classes are offered by all clubs which gives the opportunity to earn the points necessary.  It would be really disappointing to miss going to champs because of a requirement that I have no way of fulfilling.

Sharon has made it clear that there will be a Hoop Circle next year at Champs. (I think it's a post under the thread "Championship Courses".) My best bet is that the qualifications for entering Champs next year will most likely be similar (meaning not *requiring* X-Hoopers) to this years' which are:

Regular Agility, Elite level, Proficient/Skilled: at least 200 points must have been
earned in the dog's lifetime. These points may have come from any/all classes offered in
NADAC, with the following requirements:
1. At least 80 points must have been earned be earned in the current year from the Regular
Agility class at the Open or Elite level.
2. At least 20 points must have been earned in the current year, at the Open or Elite level, in
both Jumpers and Chances.
3. If a dog is over 7 on August 1, 2016, then they MUST enter the Veterans division. If a
dog is over 10 on the first day of the Championships, then they will be entered into the
Double Digit division.

As you can see there's no requirement for any of the "games" - Weavers/Tunnelers/Touch N'Go.

Hope that helps,
Kyle
