Title: Stalls at Champs
Post by: danforth on January 16, 2017, 12:01:07 PM
I have two questions about the stalls that are available at Champs.

1:   What is the floor made of?   Dirt, concrete, etc?
2:   What is the size of a stall?

The reason that I am asking now is that I have someone who has some rubber matting that might be useful.  I would like to know if that is needed and also what size would I need.

Thanks.

Isabel

I just sent an email to Eden Park asking the answer to both of those questions :)

On this same vein, how far is the camping area from the stalls/arena?

Please ask if they are wood or metal stalls as this make a huge difference when it comes to decorations. Metal all the way to the top as in Utah were hard to decorate. Thanks Sandy Langan

Another question.  What kind of decorations do people have?  are most stalls decorated?

Here is a little map they sent over.
Haven't heard back on our questions yet, but I'm sure they will get to it soon :)

I'll be making a trip out to Sunbury at some point to take a look at things, after that we will see how many people we can fit in each area and how we'll need to split them up.  I imagine the majority of folks will be in Campsite C.   But no need to be crowded so we might spread out a bit.

Wow, a map already!
After your inspection, it would also be nice to know about the campsites:  on grass, dirt, or asphalt?
Showers? Dump station? You know, all the usual!

I can answer the first one, the camping is on dirt.

I'll have to ask about the other ones :)

I'll start a list so when I make a trek out there I can get everything answered

Chris - to add to your list of things to check out - looking at the map , it looks like the camping is no further away than the stalls  - if that is the case working out of the RV might be more relaxing for some dogs vs being in stalls

so can you kind of eyeball the distance of each to the arena?  Thanks

Maureen,

Measuring off the County GIS map they look to be about the same assuming you are going outside to the front door.  From the middle of Campsite C to the front door of the arena or from the middle of Barn A to the front door both are a little over 1000'.  If it's set up so that you can enter the west end of the arena it would be about 650' from the middle of Campsite C and about 425' from the middle of Barn A.  Here's the GIS website if you want to look.  http://www.delco-gis.org/auditor/
Also there are pictures on the Equestrian Park website that have quite a bit of information.

I'm going to make an announcement video here soon, and I'll explain this.   The short answer is yes, kinda.

We also just got this response from the mangement:

Good questions, I'm glad to answer them.

The floors in the stables are as follows.
In the premium stables (40 count) inside the Coliseum have concrete aisles and thick rubber mats. The stalls are finished wood and are 12'10'.

Barns A & B are limestone floors. The stalls (141-289 count) are also limestone. The stalls are 10'10' made with steel and tough vinyl.

We will decide here soon whether the premium stalls will even be used.   I have a feeling they might be a bit too close to the ring for our comfort with barking dogs.

I would like to reserve a camp spot in Campground C please.  Is there a list started yet?

When would stalls and creating space be available for set up?   We are trying to plan the trip out there.

Thanks.

My main and only focus for this coming week is Champs stuff.  So premium, camping reservations, stall reservations etc.

So if all goes well we should have it early or late this coming week!

Do the stalls have electrical outlets?  That was a great asset in Illinois!

Thanks!

yes that was nice to have power.  are the doors sliding open or are they hinged and swing open like at Utah? Sandy Langan

Also - if we rent a stall now and then don't qualify or are unable to come for some other reason, can we get a full refund?

Thanks!
Robin

They appear to be sliding from what I can discern from the photos

Do we need to bring a lock for the stalls, and if so, what kind is recommended?

When in Springfield, I brought a lock with a cable to tie through the bars and lock it.  I ended up using it for a day or 2, then it became a PITA.  However, I know last year, there were some issues with theft so I am thinking about it again.  Or, I may just leave my wallet and such locked in my car and carry minimal cash with me.

That's sort of disturbing that there was theft at the Champs!  As much as I don't want my money stolen, I'd be more concerned having the caliber of person who would do that anywhere near my dogs!  I'd be concerned about leaving them when I had to go walk a course, volunteer, etc

The theft issues were pretty obviously not done by any competitors.

Right around the time it happened a lot of people mentioned some random kids hanging around the area and other folks no one recognized.  They were never seen again after the thefts occurred.  If we thought it was a dog person in any way things would have been handled much differently :)

Chris,
You may not have the answer (yet), but...
With the stalls, the center aisle stalls (I think they're #21-40) I'm sure only open on one side/aisle. So those of us "thinking" we'll be in Stall 21 and across the aisle from our friend in Stall 41, may ACTUALLY be facing stall 1?  Do you know if that's the case?

It does appear to be that way, but I can't tell which direction they are facing.   I am pretty sure once we get there that people would be willing to swap sides though if something like that occurs :)
