Title: grandfather into Gamblers
Post by: knittingdog on July 23, 2019, 07:48:47 AM
I think I remember that  dogs with an Elite Gamblers titles in other venues can start playing NADAC Gamblers at the Elite level.  Surge has his Elite Gamblers title in ASCA.  Is there somewhere I need to send in proof?  Will a picture of his Elite Gamblers title Certificate work?

Thanks!

I believe you can enter Elite Gamblers if you are currently running Elite chances too.

Along these lines, can one enter Elite Gamblers if they have an Elite Chances title?

From the news page re Gamblers

Do I have to enter at Novice?
If you are running in a higher level of a gamblers type class in another venue you can grandfather into the Elite level for NADAC.
If you only run in NADAC we are allowing our competitors to grandfather in as well, as long as they have 30 points in Elite Chances.

We are allowing people to enter into the higher levels, if they are running in those higher levels in chances.

We aren't going any forms to submit though, you can just enter normally and we'll handle it on our end

It's all good and dandy but am I the only one that it bugs that the cute little ACD in the banner for the Gamblers info page is going the wrong way through the weaves? Help him out and photoshop that ;)

Maybe there is one more pole that we can't see.

So just to be clear, can people grandfather into Gamblers and enter their current Chances level, or is it only for people who have at least 30 Elite Chances points and can enter Elite Gamblers?

Thanks,
Erin

That first statement says if they are running in that level of Chances they can enter in the level of Gamblers.
To me that seems pretty clear.

Yes, except that is different than what the NADAC website says which is that you have to have 30 points in Elite Chances to grandfather in.

I was talking to someone yesterday and wondered about something.

Right now - let's say you have a dog running tunnelers. They get their novice title, move to open, get 2 legs, and then move into elite. Those elite points show up - but don't "count" until they backfill 1 leg in open to earn their open title.

Will the same work in elite gamblers? So if a dog is running in elite chances - and has let's say 1 elite chances Q. Can they enter elite gamblers right away and those points just don't "count" until they earn the second two legs of their chances title?

The Exhibitor's Handbook says:   Novice level title and an Open level title in that particular class must be earned before entry is allowed at the Elite level

And it says:  If a dog is prematurely moved to a higher level in a class before completing the requirements for the lower level title in that class, the dog must go back to the lower level to complete the requirements for that level title before any higher level titles will be awarded. Any points earned at the higher level prior to the completion of the lower level title will be lost.

So the way I read it, someone skipping ahead is violating the rules.  And not only do they need to go back and complete that 2nd and/or 3rd Q, but they LOSE the upper level Qs.  So it's not just that those Qs are "on hold" until the lower level is completed.  It reads like they are lost.

I believe those rules are in place for teams that are not grandfathered in.  Someone new to NADAC in the next 6 months would have to start in Novice and complete the title before moving up.  Chris has allowed grandfathering into Gamblers for current NADAC handlers at this time only. So if you are running Elite Chances, you may grandfather into Elite Chances.  What I don't know is if a title in Elite Chances is required or just a Q or 2.

Thank you for pointing that out!

It is something that's changed since the release, so I'll get that page updated :)

No we will be cross checking with Chances.  So long as they are competing at the same level they are in chances, in gamblers, their points will show up as they earn them

Correct!

And we're allowing it for people who are competing at that level, so basically if you have a Q in elite chances, you can compete in elite gamblers.

Question along these lines- we are in Elite Chances- can I start in Open Gamblers or are my choices Elite (grandfathered in from Chances) or Novice as if i were brand new?

Hope my question makes sense

You always have the option to enter at a lower level.   That goes for any nadac class, regardless of what titles or awards you have :)

I hope someone from NADAC can chime in about this - is this accurate? That grandfathering for folks to their chances level will not allowed indefinitely? If so - can you say why that is? It seems like you'd always allow someone to grandfather from a different org - so why not always allow the grandfathering to the chances level for those who choose to only run NADAC?

It won't be indefinite because Gamblers has just been re-introduced into NADAC. There are some teams who probably have the skills for successful performance at the higher levels but don't want to enter lower levels to earn their way up (for a variety of reasons). To help the introduction of Gamblers, NADAC is simply using your current Chances level as a surrogate measure of your skills so that you can enter a level suitable for your skills.

But once the introductory phase is over, Gamblers will be like every other class in terms of title progressions: teams will have to demonstrate their skills to advance.

The grandfathering-from-other-venues is based on the same concept but the intent is somewhat different (to entice other venue exhibitors to try NADAC).

Correct answer here.

We're allowing the grandfathering for awhile so folks don't have to start 'from scratch'.   But eventually that will go away.

So the grandfathering of Gamblers is temporary. Is it a correct assumption to say that as long as you have a qualified run in Elite gamblers you can stay in Elite ? If you donít get a opportunity to run gamblers because you canít get to trials or they donít offer gamblers in your area, you would need to start in Novice even if you have multiple Natch level scores in chances ? Any idea on how long the grandfathering will be offered? Thanks Donna and Gracie

We'll keep it going for probably a year.  That should give everyone enough time to try it :)
