Title: This forum ROCKS!
Post by: AgileDobes on April 22, 2012, 03:02:55 PM
Thank you so much Chris for all your hard work on creating and maintaining this forum!! I really hope everyone will give it a chance and that this will eventually replace the Yahoo group entirely. Everything here is so much more streamlined and easy to navigate. Embrace change everyone! :)

Oh and the new points files with the more frequent updates are AWESOME!

Thank you thank you thank you!

I agree!  And thanks to Chris's excellent video, I finally figures out how to "get" the posts.  Double thanks.

My programming knowledge is growing at a pretty fast rate and I just bought some new tools...So in the next month or so we may even get a little more...dynamic 8)

I have to agree, I really like this forum. I was a member of the yahoo group, but quite honestly I hardly ever read any of the posts. I had to wade through *so much* that wasn't of interest to me.

Great job Chris!

I have a quick question on how to do something.  You can click on 'show unread posts since last visit' but how do you get it to bring you to the first unread post?  it only seems to bring you to the first or the last message?

There should be a 'new' button in the topic line.

If you click that it will take you to the first unread post in that topic.

That's the theory anyway

The button I see is labeled 'last post'.  Is that the one you mean?

The last post will bring you to the newest post. There should also be a 'new'great button in the subject line.  I will take a screenshot later :)

I guess my next question is, how do I  insert a screenshot. I put the picture url between the img tags, but guess that didn't work.:-(

Ah ha - thank you!  I thought "new" just meant it was a new topic.  I didn't realize it meant new posts.

That is something I actually need to research today.   As I haven't been able to get that working either.

I believe it has to be hosted somewhere (photobucket) and then you put the url that has it's location in between the img tags.

Just a test using the long url
(http://<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/40908187@N07/6709214727/" title="2011-10-02 14.32.39 by fisherdogshots, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7027/6709214727_e0027de863.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="2011-10-02 14.32.39"></a>)

I played with this. Best I could do is make it a hyper link.

Nice photo by the way!

What happened with my last post it worked in Preview but the the link is all jumbled on actual posting.

Sorry but I'm trying it again here. This is using Hyperlink button.

www.flickr.com/photos/40908187@N07/6709214727/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40908187@N07/6709214727/)

Interesting dog train photo so worth it if the link would work right and you could just click to see Joe's photo.
I'm assuming it is Joe's photo.

A question about this forum can you just put in the link without the weblink button and will it be posted?

Like this:
www.flickr.com/photos/40908187@N07/6709214727/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/40908187@N07/6709214727/#)

In Preview both of these links look active and find, let's see how they appear after posting.

Last attempt at this I promise.

Also looked at some other topics and it does seem if you attach a Photo it will appear at bottom of your posts but this would require the photo on your local machine and then it would get uploaded onto the forum.

posting pictures with the image tag....

in your reply post (or new post) select the Insert Image button (just under the B (bold)

that adds the image tag in your message that looks like this: (without spaces) [img ]http://[/img ]

you need to take the location of the picture you want to share (that is somewhere else on the web... for example from the NADAC website:

to get the correct address of the image and not a link to the page you need to right click on your image and in IE go to properties then highlight and copy the address (URL) listed; in Chrome right click and choose copy image URL

that gives me this address:
http://www.nadac.com/Rules_for_NADAC_trials.htm (http://www.nadac.com/Rules_for_NADAC_trials.htm)

I put the picture address inside the image tags (remove spaces) [img ]http://www.nadac.com/Rules_for_NADAC_trials.htm[/img]

as mentioned before you can also share pictures by uploading them to the forum as an attachment. (depending on size limitations some forums disable this option but for now it seems to be available)

in your reply at the bottom is Attachments and other options, choose to attach your picture file that is within the size requirements listed.

 :D

We've gone a little off topic but it is because the new forum rocks.

I believe Jackie's answer about the IMG tag is great but you might not be able to do this with a picture from a site like Flickr because of many reasons.

The photo poster does not allow the photo to be shared.

Or the site itself will not share the photo unless it sees a link back to itself on the page calling it, I believe this may be the case with Flickr.

So for those sites you can only share a link to a page with the photo at that site.
