Any thought given to letting youg dogs enter ECG limited strain on bodies and a chance to learn in a trail environment?

No, the lowest age is 18 months for entering trials and that won't change.  Even though EGC is ground work, there are still a lot of turns, a lot of training at an early age and young dogs also need time to mentally mature before being in a "trial" environment.  That is for the safety of all dogs present, to not have juvenile dogs in a high stimulation scenario.
