Water Bag Inserts for Tunnel Bags
« on: April 01, 2013, 07:27:53 AM »
Hi everyone,

We use saddle bag tunnel bags filled with water for all of our trials.  Currently we use trash compactor bags and twist ties but I am looking to simplify the process this year.  I would like to find some sort of tough 3 gallon plastic bag for holding liquid with a SCREW TOP to insert into the saddle bags.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Erin

I wonder if you look at camping supplies for their collapsable water jugs that have screw on caps.  I know that they come in various sizes.  I know that the upfront cost my be expensive  but they should last a long time.  You could look at different local camping places and online places such as  Cabella's ,  Sierra Trading Post, etc.

Salty Dog Canvas Company makes just what you are looking for. We use them at out trials and they are wonderful. You can find them online.

Just a question. What advantage do the water bags have over the sand bags?  I am thinking it is that you can just empty the water when the trail is over. However then you have to fill them at the trail site. Do you always have a hose available at the site?
It not the dogs fault stupid!

We fill them at the training hall and bring them to the site. We dump them at the site when the trial is over. No one complains about us watering the lawn. The positive in using them for us is that sandbags take up a lot of floor space empty saddlebags are stored in a container on a shelf.

We prefer water:

1.  I like how the water gives if a dog should happen to hit a bag.

2. There is no way that we could safely tow the  weight of all the sand bags that we would need.

We do have a hose available at all of our sites.
