En route to Champs "In Case of Emergency"
« on: August 01, 2013, 08:41:33 PM »
When I travel (by myself, with two dogs), I have an "in case of emergency" (ICE) info sheet (actually multiple copies all over my RV!).  This includes pertinent info about each dog, but also includes a list of people who have agreed to help out ICE.  Mostly, this would be if I was unable to care for my dogs, or look for them should they be lost (doG forbid), or otherwise provide support.  I have several folks who are on the list as "this is where my dogs need to go eventually" should I pass on to the next life (OK, we're talking serious stuff here - but too much planning prevents these things from happening, or so I'm going to go on believing!).  But it might be that someone would have to pick up the dogs for a night or two, and be sure the "eventual" folks can arrange to get them.  Whew.

Anyway, I tend to have friends in the intermountain west, because that's where I usually travel.  However, the route to Champs will take me into territory where I don't have any names to add to my list.  I'm hoping someone out there might volunteer (and of course, I would be happy to reciprocate).

As it turns out, I will be traveling out of Colorado sometime after Sept. 9 or 10,  and heading to South Bend, IN (to visit family) via I-80 through Nebraska, Des Moines IA, Joliet IL, and south of Chicago (as far as I can stay away!).  I expect to be in this vicinity from around  Sept. 14 or 15 through the 20th. [The family members there aren't up for this task, due to living situation and work.]  Then I will be heading south to Mechanicsburg, IL by Sept. 20th, then to Springfield.  Since my travel across the plains will be well before Champs, even someone going who lives in that area could be on my "list."  I would also love to have some folks who will be AT Champs be on the list, for that time frame.

Feel free to contact me privately - I would need phone numbers, and while this is a "closed" list, perhaps not everyone wants their numbers out there!
I would be happy to be on anyone else's list, for the time frames and locations around where I'll be.

Yeah, call me over-planned.....it's just who I am!  Thanks in advance,
Diane (and Bracken and Teasel)

Thanks for your post.  I have a similar list with color pictures of my dogs, but I hadn't thought to have people along the route "just in case".   You are totally right - over planning seems to prevent the need.

This is actually a great idea for anyone who travels with dogs.  I am going to do something similar for my very frequent road trips.

each of my dog's crates has an index card with their info on it and any other info (like that my husky needs meds and is old and deaf) and my husky's crate also has her muzzle - many contact numbers and a statement of REWARD - along with a color photo of each and their NY Lisc. number and rabies certificates ...

now I have to make one for the puppy :)
