I know this has been discussed but RSS Feeds are pretty cool as well...... or Tapatalk on the iPhone, iPad stuff.  The RSS Feeds give you a "link" to go straight to the entire subject.  Just a couple more ideas instead of digest..... :P

There's a simple way, and IMO it's much better than digest.

Set it so there's a deal under account info that says "show unread posts since your last visit"

I'm sorry, that's the way I have mine set up but I cannot remember the specific steps I used.

it's great though, I just click on "show unread posts", there's a page with unread posts. I just can glance at them and click on what I am interested in.

I also have (under account info) "show new replies to your last post"

Joe

I do miss the digest option of the yahoo group. My one wish (at present) is for that option to be available in the forum. I too find it hard to visit this site every day- to have it arrive in my mailbox works really well for me. I can skim past the ones I'm not interested in, but I do know that a topic has been started.

This is actually standard when you register.   To the best of my knowledge this option is always there, and can't be removed

The option to "show unread posts" was always on my account.  I just didn't see it at first---it's playing around with options that often find answers to your problems.

I have and still get the list in digest form BUT I don't understand why you would want such a thing with a forum.

Frankly over the last few days the volume on the OLD communication method was too high with all the Beta test and Barrel messages. And how often did people make those digest longer than needed by not clipping replies. Or the worst mistake replying on top of the whole digest.

Here with the NEW way all messages are grouped by topic and are kept shorter unless people intentionally quote others. But here the quote is easily seen and if you know you just read it you just scroll down and not read it.

The sooner everyone moves over here the better

Ah, yes---but sometimes people post in a topic that really does not describe their post, or the discussion in the topic morphs to another issue that you might want to know about, but would not know the conversation would meander that way.  That's why "show unread posts" works for me.  You can quickly look at the posts and move on if not interested.

That was a BIG problem with the digest, especially when people relied to the entire diggest rather than to a single post.  The board does not have that problem.

And if a topic gets derailed far enough we can split it up and start a new topic, migrating all the pertinent posts.

That way everything can stay in it's proper place.

I should have known that Cris would have it all figured out!  Is that something you would do, Chris?  Or would a poster notify you?  It sounds like a nightmare, as sometimes posts start out talking about the original post and segue halfway through to another topic.

Ideally me or the other admins would stay on top of it.   But if we slip up and miss something there would be no scalding for a little reminder :)

For some reason my RSS feed for the NADAC Forum no longer works.  What is the url for the RSS feed?  I use a MAC and tried just clicking on the RSS feed at the bottom of the screen.  All I get is a whole lot of code.

This is what mine shows:

http://nadacforum.com/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss

My RSS feed stopped working also. I checked my link and it appears to be the same as what you have Chris. But it isn't  working, so I removed my link and tried to re-add the RSS link from the forum. Thunderbird now says it is now an invalid link. It stopped working yesterday.

The RSS link is not the page itself but the URL at the top of your browser page.

My RSS also stopped working and gave me the same message - "invalid link."

Good idea!  I really want everyone on the same page long before Championships!!  I think July 15th is a good date!
Sharon

July 15th seems more than reasonable, but I'd like to suggest keeping the YahooGroup in place beyond that, but only if it's possible to change the settings to allow only owner/moderator posts while keeping the message archives available (there's an awful lot of good information shared and stored there this past decade plus).

Keeping the YahooGroup presence would allow news to be noted via periodic moderator posts with a link to the new (and wonderful) forum giving any lingering folks a heads up that they're missing out on something pertinent... you could set a final deadline for this type of notice as well, and use the automatic post sender as additional periodic kicks in the rear.

And the homepage of the YahooGroup (where the rainbow picture appears) could be modified to direct anybody on hiatus how to find the new forum... this modification could be made now actually, and include the July 15th changeover date to help remind people and give them a nudge in the backside.

As much as I'm enjoying the new forum, I don't look forward to losing all those years of tips & tricks and reminiscing and would love it if the archives of the old group could remain available as a searchable resource. Don't know if it would/could work, but thought I'd suggest it just in case... maybe it would help alleviate some of the anxiety over the change..?
