Anyone make hoops to sell?
« on: January 25, 2014, 08:04:04 AM »
Hi All,

Looking for someone or an agility company who makes hoops to sell, what the cost is and if they ship them.

Thanks in advance for any responses or tips!

Affordable Agility has hoops and a video with Jean McCraight and Zach. You can see whether they're "affordable" here:

I have the Affordable Agility hoops, they are fine for backyard, but possibly not heavy duty enough for the wear and tear that competition equipment sees, only because they are a smaller diameter pvc than what I see at competitions.  The top hoop part seems to succumb to UV after a few years and fade and crack, but that is easy to replace with a hoola hoop or PEX tubing.  I have had them for about 6 years and they are great.  I would buy them again.  Most winters I break them down and put them away but they have spent time out in the snow too, and nothing has broken or cracked.

I have been making hoops for clubs and others through our business, Be Canines LLC. They are made with 1" schedule 40 PVC and PEX pipe. Cost is $25 each, $250 for a dozen. I've also made sets using the smaller diameter PVC and PEX, which cuts down the price by 25%, but is also less durable. We'd be happy to ship, but so far we have been supplying to the local area (PNW) only. Like many agility items, shipping becomes expensive so buying local makes sense when possible.

Becky, If you are buying for competition or out door use, I would recommend the 1" pvc with 3/4" pex pipe.  They are heavier and more durable.   If you are handy at all, you could make them yourself. I made mine following Marg's dimensions in the files on the Yahoo group.  You would need to order the 4 way connectors but you could get the other materials at the local Lowe's or other building supply store.  Here is the link to the company I bought my connectors from.

Becky's inquiry about hoops is to help answer questions to people that ask us where to get them!  They are not for us.

Affordable Agility had the hoops on a clearance sale for $17.00 apiece, but I believe they are sold out.

These are on ebay....

I personally make my own and have made them for my friends in the Chicago area.  I found that the 3/4" PVC is fine for backyard, but Lily has hit them when running full tilt after a squirrel and broke it at the connector.  They do sit outside all the time so I am sure the PVC becomes slightly brittle.

I'm making hoops to NADAC specs in Colorado, I haven't shipped any of them but could, and can deliver to any trials in the CO Front Range area.  Using 3/4 inch Sch 40 and 1/2 inch PEX.
