New Standard Course Times
« on: April 12, 2016, 04:55:43 PM »
Seems I remember seeing something that said the new Standard Course Times had been released.  Where can I find these new times???  Thanks.

Just curious (and I'm being lazy!) - are these faster or slower than the old times?  Or maybe some of both?

These are a bit slower than they were before.

Other size dogs, same math equation as always - and please don't ask me to do it.

Since the small dog times are a calculation using the large dog factors, then follows small dogs will also get a bit more time.

Yay!  I was planning to wean off NADAC since my dogs can make Elite Jumpers time in other venues but not NADAC.  Maybe I will stay.

All the follow on calcs  are 10% increases each step in size:

Novice Regular yps (as an example):
Large must run 2.75 yps to qualify.
Medium must run 2.75/110% = 2.5 yps.
Small dogs must run 2.75/(110%)(110%) = 2.27 yps.

Take course yardage divided by required yps to qualify and that's the time to beat.

Clear as mud?

Just about :P

I really wish someone would figure this out (roughly) for small and medium dogs for all the classes and levels, but mostly because math breaks my brain.

And to tell the truth while it would be useful, I mostly 'GO AND HOPE' anyway :P

It would be really nice to have a chart posted with the required times by class, by height and level.  Can someone do that?  It would really help those of us who are mathematically challenged.  Thank you so very much.

Syntactically, the calculation for small dogs is incorrect: 2.75/(110%)(110%) = 2.75
Even so, taken your expression to mean 2.75/[110%)(110%] = 2.27, I believe you have interpreted the rule incorrectly.

From the exhibitor's handbook:
Medium dogs and Large Vet/JH dogs shall receive 10% more time than the large dogs for each level.
Small dogs and Medium Vet/JH dogs shall receive 20% more time than the large dogs for each level.

Your calculation gives small dogs 10% more time than the medium dogs, which is not the same as 20% more time than the large dogs.

Using 1.2 = 120%, the novice small dog calculation would be 2.75/1.2 = 2.29 YPS.  On a 100 yard course, that is a difference of 0.38 seconds.

Generally,
Large dog YPS / 1.1 = medium dog YPS
Large dog YPS / 1.2 = small dog YPS

All right so with the last formula it looks like the YPS are going to be:

Medium:
Regular:
Novice:  2.5
Open: 2.95
Elite:  3.4

Jumpers:
Novice: 3.31
Open: 3.77
Elite: 4.22

Touch 'n' Go:
Novice: 2.86
Open: 3.31
Elite: 3.77

Tunnelers:
Novice: 3.63
Open: 4.09
Elite: 4.54

Weavers:
Novice: 2.72
Open: 3.09
Elite: 3.43

Numbered Hoopers:
Novice: 3.40
Open: 3.86
Elite: 4.31

Barrelers & X-Hoopers:
Novice: 3.40
Open: 3.86
Elite: 4.31

And Small Dogs:
Regular:
Novice: 2.29
Open: 2.70
Elite:  3.12

Jumpers:
Novice: 3.04
Open: 3.45
Elite:  3.87

Touch 'n' Go:
Novice: 2.62
Open: 3.04
Elite: 3.45

Tunnelers:
Novice: 3.33
Open: 3.75
Elite:  4.16

Weavers:
Novice: 2.5
Open: 2.83
Elite: 3.16

Numbered Hoopers
Novice: 3.12
Open: 3.54
Elite: 3.95

Barrelers & X-Hoopers:
Novice: 3.12
Open: 3.54
Elite: 3.95

Roughly.  I make no promises I didn't mess up somewhere.  But there it is, roughly (some of those may round up -  I didn't go more than 2 places past the decimal) It's mostly here for ME to reference when I need to figure things out/guesstimate later.  I just thought it may be useful for someone else.

Billie & Becky & all – it’s not that easy to actually do a chart since there are so many classes and so many different classifications of dogs/handlers.  So try this with a calculator:

To find your standard course time, you should:
1) Divide the course yardage by the number in Sharon’s chart of large dog numbers. (See below)
This will be the large dog SCT.

2) If your dog is not a large dog, them multiply the LDSCT by
1.1   for Medium Dogs or Large Vet/JH/VH
1.2   for Small Dogs or Medium Vet/JH/VH
       1.25   for Small Skilled
1.3   for Small Vet/JH/VH and Small Vet/JH/VH Skilled

Skilled Dogs would be classified according to their jump height so
       Large Skilled = Medium Dog
       Medium Skilled = Small Dog
       Small Skilled = 1.25 x Large Dog.

From Sharon (April 12, 2016)
Novice Level      Open Level      Elite Level
Large dogs      Large dogs      Large dogs
Regular Agility YPS              2.75                          3.25                3.75
Jumpers YPS                  3.65                          4.15                4.65
Touch N Go                 3.15                          3.65                4.15
Tunnelers                      4.00                          4.50                5.00
Weavers                       3.00                     3.40                3.80
Numbered Hoopers         3.75                     4.25                4.75
Barrelers & X-Hoopers    3.75                     4.25                4.75
Chances    (40 seconds is maximum course time)

Note 1:  Becky’s method will result in some round off errors so you may be slightly off when you figure SCT based on that.

Note 2:  Right now, I think there is a discrepancy until the Agility Unscrambled software gets caught up with this.  FAST is already corrected.

Awesome.  I definitely knew there were round off errors in there, but things like vet hadn't occurred to me and I've heard some conflicting things on skilled times.

Honestly, I mostly don't care most of the time.  I eyeball to try and figure out more or less where I need to be, but end of day it's there or it's not.  Having the right 'math' to guess at it makes me feel better though!

Thank you, Sarah.
