X-Hoopers 4 Gates vs 3
« on: August 17, 2016, 08:19:13 PM »
Buried in the long threat "X-Hoopers as part of NATCH" Sharon suggested 4 gates instead of 3 between hoops in the circle.   I just want to confirm, for my club's up coming annual Games Trial, we should use 16 gates in the circle instead of 12.  We have time to make and/or track down 4 more gates.

If you have them yes, it makes a much better circle.  If you don't have them, you can use 3, the dogs just turn tighter.

How about the wings?  If we use 4 gates for each section of the hoop circle, should we use 3 gates for the wings instead of 2?

Thanks,
Erin

If you have them, yes.

Does this affect the clubs using ex-pens?

I am having trouble (no surprise there) getting this all straight.  Is this correct:
1.  If a club/individual doesn't have enough gates/X-pens, they are allowed to have 3 gates in a section in the circle?  In this case, they would use 2 gates for the wings?
2.  If one has enough gates for 4 per section, then 3 gates are used for the wings?
3.  Are both of the above situations allowed for VT runs?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the quick response.  One more question - if using X-pens, do they all have to be the same color?  I have a black one and a goldish one. Could I use both?

Curious... Why are x-pens preferred?

the spacing is perfect and the dogs can see the handlers better.

Sharon, I'm looking at a couple of brands of x-pens.  Some say "light weight", others do not.  So I don't know how they compare to say the Midwest ones you posted an Amazon link to.  But I guess my question is this - actually 2 questions -

1)  Given their intended use, does it matter if they are light weight or not?  Do they need to be "heavy duty?"  and

2)  Is there a preference for gates without a door, or is the door OK?

The really light weight ones won't stand up by themselves without staking poles on the circle.

without door is preferred, but it could be used if necessary.

Marcy,

Could you copy/paste that email of Sharon's with the link to the x pens?  I can't find it and I'm ready to buy some and sell my gates.

Sorry I can't search for that right now. But it wasn't an email. It was a reply on the forum. So if you search x pens and look for Sharon replies you can probably find it.
