Stalls and Crating
« on: February 11, 2017, 04:21:54 PM »
Hello,

What is the difference between stalls and crating? What are they used for, it when the dog isn't running the course?

Thanks

Days are long at Champs. Starting usually at 7 a.m. with announcements and walk thrus (so you get there earlier than that to get your dog settled) and you could be running or volunteering until 9 or 10 p.m. (or later, sometimes, I've heard tell).  If you have an RV you can go "home" and relax during your down times, but the rest of us and our dogs are there for the whole time.  Dogs are Not allowed in the arena's grandstand, so they spend a lot of time wherever you are "set up."  You will be doing other things--in the arena for announcements, walk thrus, watching runs, volunteering, shopping, so the dogs need someplace to hang out and, hopefully relax.  Some venues don't have big open spaces, like is often available for a regular trial for crating, but DO have stalls.  So you can rent a stall for the week (or share with a friend) and set it up for you and your dog's comfort.  The options on how you use them vary and if you chose to decorate--I'm not the only one I've seen with a folding recliner for naps!!  Some dogs may relax a little better closed off in their "space" so the stalls work great for that. Just whatever arrangement is most comfortable for your team.  However Chris said apparently this venue Does have a big open space if you want to use it instead for "normal" crating at no charge.  You could do a set up with crate/expen whatever you use at a typical trial. It Would make decorating more difficult, though certainly not impossible!
Does that help?

Another question on stalls...do most people decorate the stalls and what's is the deal with decoding them? And do people just use cute dog stuff to decorate the stalls?

Purple, purple, purple!!  Some people have a theme.  There have been decorating contests.  don't know it that will happen this year.

I just watched Chris's video.   I am wondering when we can set up in either stall or crating area.

Either later afternoon on Monday or early Tuesday depending on what the site allows us to do.

I'm hoping for later on Monday if things go well.

Chris,
I watched the video and couldn't see where general parking is going to be.
Thanks

The majority of the competitors should be able to park on either side of the Stall Barns.   That should give ample enough room.

I would appreciate a more specific answer regarding non-RV parking areas. Looking at the fuzzy map, I think it is going to be difficult to fit all non-campers by the stall rental area. Or, at least there is going to be a lot of competition to park next to one's own rented stall.

In the area next to the stalls there will be parking for roughly 50 cars.   Considering this last year we had around 80 RV's, that will be MORE than enough room for our competitors that are coming in by car.
I prefer not to give concrete answers until I see things with my own eyes.   Once I am able to fly out and inspect the facilities for these specifics I can be more concrete.   But I can guarantee that having enough room for parking will definitely not be an issue :)

OK, I didn't realize less than 50 people drove to champs without an RV.

Maybe not this year!  It's hard to say.  Like I said though parking will definitely not be an issue.   It's a very large facility and if they have enough room for 300 horse stalls and the truck and trailer parking to go with them I think we'll be okay with our dog folks :)

In the open crating area, we have an assigned spot, is there a chart that shows where that spot is located in relationship to all the other spots.  Maybe some kind of diagram.  Will they be marked for us when we arrive to set up.  I can't remember the dimensions of the crating spots.  Could you please let me know what it is.

I believe I saw you state that it would be alright for us to put up a tent in the open crating area.  Is that okay?

Thanks so much,
Judy Whitbred

We'll definitely have a map on site!

All the spots will be marked off, with a piece of paper saying who is in which spot.  So it should be pretty easy :)

And yes tents are A-OK.
