South Carolina indoor arena
« on: October 19, 2017, 05:34:21 PM »
Has the Garrison Arena at Clemson University in Pendleton, South Carolina been considered as a champs site? I saw there are some agility trials there.

As I recall NADAC said they need/want a 200’ x 300’ clear span arena for Champs. A quick google search for garrison arena shows that their arena is only 140’ x 260’.

I don't think there has ever been a NADAC trial in South Carolina!

Nice arena!

We could definitely make it work, especially with the attached covered arena right next to the main one.  That would make things much easier.

My only concern, and this is from a person who has spent very little time in South Carolina, what is the weather like in Late September and early October?

Sunbury this year was pushing my comfort level on a couple of days, and I think those days were in the 80-85 range.   So if SC would be in that same temp range or higher that would be the first big question.

I think Champs weather this year was not the norm for the area. My friend once showed me a nice website that shows historical trends for any areas temperatures that you could compare by month for many years back, but I cannot remember what the site is. If someone else knows, maybe they could post it.

I found something similar!

You can choose month and year in the upper left, under the "history" tab.

Ive been in the area in early October a lot (2011, 2012, and 2103) and its usually been super nice, evenings in 50's days hitting low 70's. Basically the best autumn weather ever.

And I believe that other arena, though covered, is not enclosed, so still a little weather impacted.
I was SWELTERING in Columbus this year, though I looked and it was not typical weather for them at that time of year. Not sure if I want to go farther south...

The climate-controlled Tennessee Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro TN has a 150x300 clear-span arena floor, a second attached 120x203 arena, a covered walkway leading to 500 stalls, hookups for 100+ RVs, lots of amenities, and a ton of open space. I really enjoy competing there. Just a thought.

The date for champs can always be moved around to consider the weather at a location. Other venues, and not just agility or even just dog sports, do that when they switch locations around the country.

The Clemson arena is nice BUT there is no NADAC in SC.  I would think we'd like to at least have Champs where there are trials.
