Hi Chris, when are the hoop-weaves used? Are they in a seperate class like the hoopers and tunnelers? In some of the 'standard' classes? Or are they defunct?

Robin

You will only see hoop weaves on a hoopers course.

They are few and far between, but the courses we used at the last trial I judged did have them.  So they are out there :)

Thanks Chris! That is Excellent! Are they associated with a particular level? Or in all of them?

I see the picture of the hoops with dimensions, but can anyone tell me the actual size of the hula hoop? Does the 92 inch mean that the circumference is 92 or bigger?

Also for the hoop-weaves - is there a standard number of those for the various levels like there are for regular weaves? The pictures are showing the hoop-weaves with three and five hoops, are those the numbers the dogs will be doing?

If you are building the arch design, you will want 3/4" PEX tubing.  PEX is used for radiant in floor heating.  Very easy to find at most all hardware stores.

The 92 designation is the total length.   Different people have different methods for getting the PEX to 92.  What I found works best is to take a piece of 1" PVC and cut that to 92".    Then take your PEX and stick it inside the PVC until it pops out the opposite end,  Line it up and cut it off.   And voila you have a repeatable way to cut the PEX :)

Chris, thanks for the tips on the PEX, I'll check that out as hula hoops are not so cheap any longer!

so what are the number of hoop-weaves that are used? Aidan and I have no trained for weaves of any kind yet and I'd love to know how many or few I should get him ready for.

Thanks for answering my questions!!

Hoop-weaves can be between three and five 'hoops' long.    I would personally start with three and you can always add on later :)

I recently modified several of my hoops to make a set of 2x2 weave trainers.  I have small dogs (cavaliers) and wanted to be able to practice in the alley behind my office during lunch since Emmy goes to my office daily.  I realize this wouldn't work for larger or pushier dogs but it has worked great for a 12 pound cavalier.  Just an idea for those interested.
The only thing I had to add was cutting a piece of PVC into 24 inch pieces for the bottom bar.  Because some of the parts were glued together when I bought the hoops it took 2 hoops to make one 2x2 set.
Hopefully the upload of the picture will work.
