weave and dog walk entries
« on: January 16, 2019, 03:22:28 AM »
Hi Chris
Would you please do a quick video on what is an acceptable weave entrance and dog walk entrance?
If you could draw some CRCD files and show acceptable and unacceptable weave and dogwalk entries that would be
extremely helpful.

As a NADAC only person, I only train weave entrances that I think I will see at NADAC trials and it seems to me that weave entrances are
not as straight forward as they use to be.  I am not bitching... I just want to know the parameters of which I need to train these entries.

A quick video or just documents showing these would be very helpful for all of us :)

Thank you in advance
lisa

It sounds like you have seen some weave entries recently that you haven't seen before. Maybe you could adapt those course designs to create some weave training exercises? If you do, maybe you would be kind enough to post the exercises for others to try...?

I think that would be handy to have, good idea!

Amanda is currently on a flight here and we planned on getting a few things worked out while she's here.  We'll add this to the list and try to get something posted :)

Great idea, particularly for the DW. I have seen DW approaches in NADAC that I donít consider safe for *my* dog (but I can see true NADAC competitors have trained/adapted to meet those challenges) and wont ask it from him (or train him to slow down) so we opt out of those courses.

I imagine fresh cross overs from AKC/USDAA with large fast dogs will conclude the same.

Here we are:

Kind of a tricky subject, so I ramble a bit.   It's about 20 minutes long, so don't watch if you're in a hurry :)

Thanks Chris!
That was very informative and helpful.

We ran Solstice Regular at my last trial.  In round 1 (the round you posted) I dont think Elite dogs had a hard time with the weave entrance as long as we got the wrap :)   However, in Round 2, not many dogs got the weave entrance especially the first round running it.

Anyway, thanks for the video.  Once the ice melts and the horses can go back outside, I can train again  and the weaves are on the agenda!

Oh and BTW..what software are you using to make the video???
Thanks
lisa

I have run Solctice at 2 different trials - with obviously 2 different judges - it was built very differently !

Kiva had no issues with weave entrances in any of the rounds at either trial  - and I think Zoe probably did   - I probably had to restart her if I remember correctly - but that being said - Zoe's weaves are not as solid as Kiva's who is much more independent with her weave entrances and completion

I will also say that at the second trial we ran it at (Lisa's) the spacing and angle from the the jump to the weaves was pretty difficult coming and going - when I ran it the first time in November in NY the flow was much nicer. So IMO - it's not always the course design but how the course is built and tweaked

IceCream Screen recorder is what I use for most everything.

You have to upgrade beyond the free version for most of the good features to get unlocked :)

I think Round 2 of Solstice caused a lot of weave pole problems because of the entry from the jump ahead of the weaves at the top of the course. That's actually a pretty cool challenge, and not something I can say I have seen before in NADAC. More, please.

Thanks for the video, Chris. Very informative.

Given this discussion, is it possible to see a map of this course?
