Oh.  Sorry.  It's in the Trial Secretaries discussion group.  If you don't have access then your trial secretary should.

I too would be sad to see Hoopers go away entirely.

When you ran Gamblers at the events last year, did people have trouble getting enough points?

I haven't done the math myself, but I've heard from two people that they think, based on the description that you presented last week, that getting enough points by doing obstacles would be hard if you had a not-so-fast dog, and so the event would favor the faster dogs because they'd get all those under time points.

I too would hate to see Hoopers go away - and not have something replace it for an All-Around Award - (NOT AA NATCH)

Personally, I have worked very hard with Zoe  to earn an AA Award and we are closing in on the Elite AA - after earning AA at all levels including Intro in the last 4 years  - Hopefully no decisions will be made that would preclude someone from earning that award after investing a lot of time (and money) in Hoopers classes.

That being said I can't wait to play Gamblers with her and see how she does !!   I loved gamblers years ago (I am dating myself) and so happy to see it come back  8)

No it really wasn't a big issue, if people planned their runs based on their dogs ability.

Folks who tried to get too many obstacles, and went over time get penalized for it.
Folks with slower dogs who got as many obstacles as possible, while staying under SCT, they got rewarded.

It had around a 60% q rate, which for a new class that people haven't completely figured out yet, was pretty high.

And the good news is that the numbers will be very adjustable in the first 6 months of the class being around.   If the Q rate is too low we'll drop the points needed, if it's too high then we'll raise it :)

Lynn  I ran it with all 4 of my dogs.  Neither Lily or Cee Cee are very fast and the both still Q'd.  I was able to work the course so they had 51 points (that included the bonus) each and both were under time by quite a bit (22 sec for Lily and 16 for Cee Cee).  I do agree that the fast dogs get better because they can get so many obstacles and go over time and not be penalized too greatly, or they can get out quick and get extra points.  The cap at 10 points was a good choice because that really does help the fast dog.  Calypso was 14 seconds over time, but still Q'd because she had 52 obstacle points plus the bonus for 72 points minus her over time.  I think a lot will depend on where the "big point" obstacles are placed in the course in relation to the gamble and the exit.  Toto, who is pretty fast, but little had 34 obstacle points and the bonus and 4 seconds to spare.  If I remember correctly, he missed the gamble on the first go round, so we went around and got points and attempted it again.

If you need help conceptualizing the points needed, see what the total is required for your level, and then subtract the total of the gamble (ten points plus the value of each obstacle within the gamble). The gamble is a requirement for the Q, so you only need to worry about collecting the rest of the points on your own. Depending on what is in the gamble portion, it may be very little work to get the rest of the points. I've seen this in FAST and PAD, where high-pointed obstacles are in the gamble, so needing a total of 60 points ends up more like needing 30-some points or fewer.
