Champs Top 50 List
« on: May 04, 2019, 06:22:36 PM »
I think it would be neat to post a Champs Top 50 List after champs is over this year.  It would be one list of the top 50 scores from all the dogs that ran in champs this year.   It could have columns listing total points, dog's name, handler's name, and division.  Maybe if you're in a competitive division you might not place or even make finals but you might still make the Top 50 list -- that would be quite an honor. Someone from a division that does not traditionally score as many points as another division might really rock it and end up high on the list -- again quite an honor.  Maybe "50" is not the number - maybe  its the "Top 25" or "Top 100", depending on the number of entries.  But one comprehensive list would be neat.

I think the list should be posted after Champs is over, not during the awards ceremony.  It should not overshadow or take away from the individual division awards.  There are individual divisions for a good reason and that's what the awards ceremony should be about.  The Top 50 List would just be an additional way to recognize some great performance when all is done.

One difficulty might be setting a common basis for all divisions. If all divisions do not run the same course, the point system would have to be normalized. I could be wrong but I thought that was done in 2017 where the shorter courses started off with a lower starting point.

There would need to be separate listings for Pre-Elite and Elite because of the different length courses.

But it's definitely possible to do.    I think there would still need to be some sort of height divisions, just looking at last years results the top 50 would all be large dogs.   Which is just how things work, those are the fastest dogs and the ones getting the highest scores.

I just did a quick look at lasts years results.

It's not as bad as I thought, the large dogs are definitely at the top.  But there are some small dogs listed which is pretty cool

Since you have access to all of the scores for all of the dogs at the end of the event, Arne, it's not that tough to do in excel. I inadvertently did it for myself the year I went because I sorted on the wrong column within the excel document that had all the scores in it (rather than group and then score which is what I intended to do).

I think it would be a fun thing to have after the event is over for the champs page.   Could be a nice bragging right for someone.

I may still at least split it into large and small dogs,  that way it’s a little more accurate.   But it’s a fun idea!
