August 1st Bonus Updates now in rule book
« on: July 15, 2019, 09:47:18 AM »
Hey all,

We just got the rule book updated to reflect the changes happening on August 1st for the bonus program.   The short version is that the approval process will more closely follow what we use at Champs, instead of the current all or nothing format.

Page 36 is where you'll find the new info :)

Gamblers Rulebook questions:

This may become clear to me later but what does the following actually mean? I'm used to titles being earned by a number of Qs. Is it possible to get a Gamblers Outstanding title with one Gamblers run?

Certification in the Gamblers class requires 30-points. An Outstanding Performance title can be earned with 60-points in Novice, or Open and with 100-points in Elite. A Superior Performance title can be earned with 100-points in Novice, or Open and with 200-points in Elite. Outstanding Performance and Superior Performance titles are not required titles to move to the next level.

I've recently filled out 2 premium entry forms that are incorrect if the following is true, and it is in handbook so I assume this is correct. The entry forms let me sign up for INTRO Gamblers.

Minimum points needed by level are:
Elite : 50 Points
Open : 40 Points
Novice : 30 Points
Intro is not offered in Gamblers.

I think you're mixing up two different qualifications. The first part above refers to TITLES that you earn in different classes.  The bottom part is how many points you have to accumulate in Gamblers in order to earn a Q for that ONE run.

Yes that is what I did, so a Gamblers Q is 10 points and 6 Qs get you to Outstanding and 10 is Superior in Novice / Open.

Now some trials will need to correct entry form so it is clear there is no Intro Gamblers. Trial Secretaries are going to have some explaining to do since I doubt I'm the only one who has entered Intro Gamblers.

Ok, one more time for the idiot in the back (that's me!)
Specifically referring to regular classes and under 100 DRI: So there is just one marked section, not one line for the box and another for the distance challenge. If you only complete 2 sections that is considered a distance challenge not a bonus and it's worth 5 extra points. 3-4 sections is a bonus but getting 3 sections is no more points than 2 except they are now considered bonus points instead of distance points? And a perfect run is worth 15 extra points? So I guess I don't quite understand the purpose of points but can you explain the logic behind 2 sections and 3 sections being worth the same amount? I didn't see any mention of how it works with the bonuses being judged at the show either. How does that work? Or was that bagged and you still have to record and send in every run to be judged?

On another note, I just sent in my very first completed distance challenge to be judged. I don't know if it will be accepted but man was I excited that we got this close. Never would have ever imagined that!

There might be other differences, but the one big difference that I know of is found earlier a bit earlier in Appendix 11 where it states:  "DC points cannot be used for awards such as Achievement Cups or MODSQUAD awards."  So the 2 sections vs 3 sections do get the same amount of points, but the 2 section DC run does not get counted towards Achievement Cups or  MODSQUAD awards.

And BIG congrats on submitting your first distance challenge.   It is a thrill to have a run like that (I've only had a couple) and it only gets better if it's accepted.  Not a let down if it doesn't, because you still have that thrill in your bones - never to be forgotten.

There will only be one line, how many sections you get, and your DRI will alter whether it becomes a DC or Bonus.

There are some overlaps as well in points.   For instance getting two sections at over 100 DRI will get you a 20 point DC designation.   While getting 3 sections over 100 will get you a 20 point Bonus.    Very different runs, but the main advantage is that having that 'Bonus' instead of 'DC' on your regular runs gets you qualified into Champs for Stakes in different divisions, and actual awards.   Distance Challenges strictly get you extra points, no awards

How are they going to be judged? Is the weekend judge going to be able to judge it or is that not happening?

As I read the rules, we still need to send in the videos.

Just curious about how we'll know what the "sections" are....
Will they be marked on the ground?
Will the judge just tell us what they are?
Will they always be divided by the numbers? (Like, they'd always be 1-4, 5-9, etc.?)

With this addition, I'd really like to request that Bonus handlers have their 2 minutes to see the course clearly either before or after the normal class walk through. It's been extremely erratic on whether we get the 2 minutes for the last several months. It would be nice for the judges to remember to allow for this. The judge has often asked whether we need it, a lot of times we actually say "no".  :)  But, sometimes, with some courses, with large Elite classes, it would be super duper helpful.

Thanks,
Kyle

There will be only one line down and the sections will be marked on the course map. There won't be any extra lines marking sequences, just like Champs. :-)

Judges aren't required to let the bonus handlers have 2 minutes ahead of time for walkthrough. Most bonus handlers across the country use the 2 minutes to first dog to get a last check of the course without a lot of people. :-)

I like the new rule changes. Thanks for the update.

As long as this is an update to the rules I do have a couple other questions.  Several years ago we were denied a bonus run because my dog did not have a sit stay before the start.  We ran a sling-shot start.  The rules state that the handler has to be in the bonus box before the dog goes over the first obstacle which I easily did.  I definitely found it annoying to be denied a bonus for not meeting a "rule" not stated in the official rule book. I still do not see any such rule listed.  If this is truly a rule could it be included in the rule book? If it is still a rule, does a dog with a sling-shot start just lose that section or is the whole bonus/DC lost? Also what is the rule for a dog with a stop on a contact?  Can there still be a bonus for that section or does he need a running contact?  Is there some rule about how fast he needs to go down the contact?

Thanks for the clarifications,
Arne Lindberg

If you are doing a sling shot start, you cannot be past the plane of the first obstacle, this applies to bonus runs, and non bonus runs as well. And yes, you must be in the bonus box before your dog goes through through the first obstacle.

Your dog cannot stop above the contact, if they do, the sequence will be lost. In the rule book, in the bonus section, it states that the dog cannot stop, and this applies to contacts as well. So with the new Aug Bonus rules, you will lose the sequence where they stop above the contact.
