Zia's Retirement
« on: March 28, 2020, 10:11:22 AM »
Many of you know my Chocolate Lab, Zia.  She has had an amazing agility career over the years and I am so grateful to have been her partner.  She was diagnosed with a mild case of Laryngeal Paralysis about a year ago and while she still enjoyed agility, I decided it was time for her to retire.  Today, with the help of two friends, we ran our last run, an Intro Jumpers course.  She loved getting out and running again.  Zia, there will never be another one like you!  Here we are with the big ribbon I had made for her retirement.

Such a special girl with such a great mom.  I'm sure the Intro run was spectacular.  Hoping you post video on Facebook!

Zia was one in a million.  Hope she enjoys her retirement.  You might try to work nosework with her, she would probably really love that.  Keeps them mentally sharp.

She has her NW 2 title, but i won't stress her with NW 3.  Might do some AKC scent work if I can ever get out of here.

Congratulations to Zia on a well earned retirement and I know how hard that decision is to make. My older boy is there, he just wants to work and work and work. I will let him in limited circumstances.

Virtual retirement party!!  Zia, loved to watch you run with Linda.  Now, we just need someone to roast Linda and someone to roast an elk for Zia!

Have some fun!

Hi Linda,

Congratulations, Zia from me and my Labs - Savannah, Annie, Shane, Autumn and Chance. You two are an awesome team. It was so much fun watching you at Champs through the years.

My dog, Chance, has laryngeal paralysis, too. He had tie back surgery last May. (I'd only had him for 7 months at that time. He's probably 10-11 years old). The 6 week recovery period was labor intensive, and I still make and hand feed him meatball sized food every day. But he has gained a whole new lease on life and is able to breath normally again. The only restriction - he can't be in water deeper than his feet.

I don't know what Zia's situation is, but you may want to look into the surgery as an alternative course of action - especially as the weather gets hotter.

Again, congratulations and happy retirement to you both.

Joan

Thank you all for your kind words about Zia.  I've said all along she was my lifetime dog.  I was so lucky to have had her as an agility partner!!
