Barrels Question
« on: October 06, 2020, 07:53:46 PM »
Hi NADAC Peeps!

I have a questions. Where does everyone get their barrels from? And how much do they generally spend?  I have seen the collapsible barrel racing ones but they are literally almost $100 each!  :o  And if I didn't want to use the mesh ones (because they blow away!), what are some of my alternatives?

Thanks in advance!

Check out your local ace hardware store for leaf barrels this fall. And if you use the mesh ones, simply put a tunnel bag or other weight inside.

The mesh barrels have been discontinued anyways by Fiskars - a few years ago - unless another company is making something similar?  We love them and stake them down if it's windy for club practice.  The solid fabric collapsible barrel racing ones can be had on ebay for around $60 a pop.  Least expensive ones with the right dimensions I've found are these yard waste containers from True Value: https://www.truevalue.com/shop/sale/pop-up-yard-lawn-refuse-bag-container-60-gal ... $20 each, and if I remember correctly my local T.V. special-ordered a 6-pack of them for me for $90 or something a few years ago.  They're not as sturdy as the barrel racing ones, so I don't know how they'll hold up over time, or if they'd be ok to use at a trial (and you'd need to trim off the carrying loops or figure out how to make them stay on the inside for safety reasons, I'd think) ... I just have them for backyard practice.

I just looked at seventeen flat and they are 3 for $150.  If you google them other cheaper ones show up.  Tough1 had a 3 pack fot $67 and change.

We found some Ryobi collapsible leaf barrels at Home Depot for $20 each recently.  I think they meet the minimum height.

It says it's 22 wide by 22 high.  But if you scroll further down it says it's 26" high.

The description says 22" wide.  I measured the one I've opened, and depending upon where I measure it is anywhere from 21.5" to 22" across.  It measures about 25" tall.

Does this mean it is not legal for NADAC use since the diameter should be 22-28"?
