Championships 2021

Championships update!

At this point in time we are feeling cautiously optimistic that Championships will be a 'go' this year.

The vaccine rollout is going well, numbers are on a downward trend, and there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Springfield, Ohio is also one of the best options for this type of event during the current pandemic, given that it's fairly open with a LOT of stalls, so if we need to space people out it's possible to do.

If the past year has taught us anything though, it's not to assume anything!   So while we are going to start posting entry forms, camping info, hotel info and the like, things could always take a turn for the worst and it all be for nothing.

Over the next week you're going to start seeing a lot of info posted, anything regarding Championships will always be posted on the Championships page of the website, and that is your best place to look.

We are going to be listing some COVID precautions that will be taken at the event.   These precautions will be updated as the year progresses and a clearer view is laid out for what things will be like at our event.   We're going to be basing the current precautions on what the current situation is.   If things improve dramatically by the time Champs is happening, some of those precautions may be adjusted or lifted.   Or some may be reinforced.

We're feeling optimistic that the infection and death rate will be drop below the numbers we had last year at the time of cancellation, and that will be another big goal that we want to see.

There is also going to be adjustments made to qualification requirements for all groups, Stakes included.

And if you were qualified to go to Champs in 2020 then you are automatically invited in 2021.

Chris, one question on the rules on here:

"If you earned a regional bye in 2020, that bye will continue to be honored in 2021"

I know the bye gets your into finals but it also gets you a t-shirt and an announcement.  I'm sure we are not the only one in this category (though I really hope we are as it is a horrible category to be in): could those who won regionals in their category in 2020 but didn't get to go to champs (since there was none) and their dog has since gone OTRB still be recognized in some way?  As I said, horrible category to be in and I really hope it is only us but I bet it isn't given how 2020/2021 has gone!

What are the requirements for champs this year both for elite and preelite?  Emmy got an invite last year but I want to be sure Allie has enough points and hoping that Bella will be able to do preelite.  Thanks so much!

We are still planning on doing the same for anyone who shows up that had a Regional bye.   2020 really messed things up, since we actually had regional winners from 2019, back when the Bye's were counting for two years instead of one who also were going to be there.      So if you won a regional in 2019, 2020 and you're there this year, then you'll get the same treatment as normal.

Regionals in 2021 are pretty much on a break.    There is one club holding theirs that they were owed from 2020, but besides that we aren't holding any others.

We'll be posting the updated requirements tomorrow onto the Champs page, and then later this week we'll be sending emails as well :)

Thanks Chris!  We intend to be there this year :) We are working hard to get the baby dog ready for William to run her in pre-elite.  She may have baby brains but she will have fun :) It is his last year as a JH, which I can't believe!!
