New Forum Announcement
« on: April 19, 2021, 09:51:14 AM »
Hey All,

We've been having an increasing number of issues with the forum software over the past couple of years.   It is somewhat antiquated, and it doesn't play very nicely with our email systems.   If you've ever had to reset a password you'll know what I'm talking about :)

So we've booted up a new site to use for the forum.    Some key points:

1) It has the same layout as facebook in how information is displayed, but we want to be very clear that it is NOT facebook.    We know a lot of people do not want to have a facebook account, and you don't need one for this.    There is an option to login with your facebook account, but that is just a ease of use option, it's not connected in any other way.

2) Your account info from the old forum will NOT work on the new one.   This is a completely new platform with no connection to the old forum.   So you will need to create a new account

3) We will be keeping the old forum in place until June 1st.    At that time we will archive the old forum, meaning the old posts can still be searched and viewed, but no new posts will be allowed.

The new forum can be found at https://nadacforum.com/

Is there a reason why you have chosen June 1st as the end of this forum?

I realize from your perspective you would like to minimize your monitoring of 2 forums but there are over 4000 registered users on this forum and some may not come on it all the time.

If you do end up having Championships this year, that always leads to more questions and discussions as Champs approaches, some people may come here after June 1st - What will happen will it still be open to see this information that there is a new forum. I realize you can put something on the NADAC website too.

Also just from a historical perspective - you will be losing a lot of information that has accumulated over the years.

A month and a half notice for a shutdown is a bit short.

I think that covers it, doesn't it Ed?

Not sure how the archive will work but obviously didn't catch that when I read it.
Good to know for some amount of time there may be an archive.

Yup we'll keep this site and all the old posts available for a very long time.    There is a lot of info here and we can't really just let it disappear :)

Basically everyone will be able to log in and view everything as normal, posting will just be disabled.

As for the timeline, it's one of those things where just getting it done and ripping the band aid is better than a slow burn.    And once July hits pretty much everything becomes Champs focused, so would like to get it handled before then
